Just yesterday, the film studio Warner Bros. released a teaser clip from its upcoming cinematic reboot of Tomb Raider, promising that there will be a much fuller trailer to come following the brief reveal of actress Alicia Vikander in action as the series' heroine Lara Croft. Now, the entertainment company has made good on its promise, as the first official trailer for the forthcoming movie has been released, with the footage depicting a re-imagined version of the character's origins story from the 2013 video game from Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics.

As seen below in the first official trailer for Warner Bros. forthcoming Tomb Raider, fans are re-introduced to a much younger version of Lara Croft as she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her deceased dad's last-known destination, which is a fabled tomb on a secret island potentially off the coast of Japan. Of course, her quest will prove to be more than a challenge, for just reaching the island alone will be extremely dangerous, but she will persevere against all odds in the attempt to solve the puzzle of her father's mysterious death.

Aside from Vikander's skillful acting chops, Tomb Raider boasts a talented cast including the likes of Warcraft's Daniel Wu as Lu Ren, Justified's Walton Goggins as Mathias Vogel, and The Wire's Dominic West as Lara's father Lord Richard Croft. Not to mention, the soundtrack has tons of promise as well, with the Dutch artist Junkie XL and the American composer James Newton Howard having contributed work to the film.

Tomb Raider will have the Norweigian director Roar Uthaug at the helm, and it looks as if he's taken inspiration from such iconic motion pictures as Raiders of the Lost Ark, with the forthcoming movie definitely looking like it could be the film version of the video game franchise fans have been waiting for. Since the last movie in the franchise starring Angelina Jolie as an older, more mature Lara Croft received a tepid reaction overall, perhaps the character's origins story is just the tale that needs to be told in order for audiences to accept her on the silver screen.

Tomb Raider releases on March 16th, 2018 in theaters everywhere.
