It’s only in the last decade or so that video game protagonists have been given extra care where their appearances are concerned, as the rise in cosplayers and fashion have made costumes a source of income for video game companies.

However, Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft has always been A-plus in her style, and a lot of the hype surrounding her games had to do with how phenomenal Lara was looking in the latest release. She’s been seen in all kinds of attire, whether meant to be seductive or deadly. Now that Lara’s gotten through another overhaul of sorts with the reboot, let’s look at the best outfits she’s worn throughout the entire series.

10 Demolition Outfit

Tomb Raider Lara Croft.v1

This costume is one of the purchasable options in 2013’s Tomb Raider, going with the theme of Lara being more gritty rather than having a sensual appeal.

With a costume that replicates something an engineer would don, full with a belt pack and a jumpsuit, the meaning behind this get-up confirms Lara is a woman for every occasion, with the one shortcoming being that it looks a bit oversized.

9 Stealth Dress

Back when the series was firm in locking in the perception of Lara being a bombshell, we got this killer of a dress — a literal killer considering the weaponry she had hidden strapped by her thigh.

Even though the graphics are updated now, Lara still looks evergreen in quality. The dress was form-fitting and deadly, as Lara had the ease to maneuver herself around. The full black color scheme was a hit, complementing Lara’s hair and accessories. The shortfall is that it's gotten a bit outdated with the idea of Lara now being a female lead who isn't mainly promoted for her figure.

8 Stealth Bodysuit

Remember the days when the Charlie’s Angels films were all the rage? Well, those girls have nothing on Lara as this bodysuit confirms she has the flexibility to land a kick no matter how far. The winner of this costume has to be the coloring, though, as Lara looked like an agent who could sneak past anywhere.

Of course, the idea was to have her dive and swim around without notice, but the suit’s flexibility meant she could do that as well as be covert in her motives. Our criticism would be that it accentuates her curves to the point of objectification, but there’s no denying the costume makes you take Lara very seriously as an action protagonist.

7 Tactical Diving Suit

Where the previous one was meant to solidify Lara as a stealth protagonist, this one showed that she could be both a badass underwater and on the offensive as well. For the purpose of being quick while submerged, Lara donned shorts rather than making use of a full suit, which also served well for fighting purposes.

There was also the addition of a harpoon gun for most of the attire’s use, and this weapon is also needed if you’re a cosplayer looking to replicate the get-up. Since it's the full package, as Lara could scale heights, dive underwater, and use her firearms as well, this look is an overall winner — we’d just like a change of coloring scheme for the top, perhaps.

6 Croft Manor Outfit

Have you ever seen someone be so ready for a fight while being at home? If you’re Lara, then you might be aware of the reason. Regardless, seeing as her characterization calls for her being a fighter, there wouldn’t be any other attire she would have on.

Seen at the manner wearing this outfit, Lara was more than prepared for any major dangers as the utility belt she had around carried most of her favorite self-defense weaponry. The top was such that she could wear it both on a casual basis and at times when she had to be on the offensive.

5 Black Jacket With Hoodie

Since spy games these days heavily rely on a darker scheme for their protagonists, Lara might as well have been a killer on the prowl here. We looked into the best outfits the Assassin’s Creed heroes had, and perhaps Lara deserves to be on that list since she looks like one here.

That leather jacket would steal the show anywhere regardless of franchise, and she bettered the look by putting on a hoodie to give it a well-rounded spin. It definitely helps that the colors go well with the hood too, and we’d definitely buy this if it was on sale.

4 Snow Trekker Lara

Who says you can’t be out in the icy tundra and not look your very best? Lara Croft proves you can hike around the mountains for an adventure and be at the top of your game where fashion is concerned. For the purposes of platforming, and in such a way that it would put the best platformers to shame, Lara made use of the trekker costume.

There can be no arguments for this to not be practical either, as it comes with a beanie to hold the hair in place and protect the ears. As can be seen clearly, the outer layer material is of the highest quality to keep the snow at bay. What’s more, the contrast between red and black makes for the most stylish adventure anyone can have.

3 Snow Hunter Costume

Tomb Raider Lara Croft

The previous costume wasn’t the best when it came to being on the offensive, but Lara had that covered with this get-up that allowed her to be out in the cold but have her guard up. The multi-layers were in place to cover the platforming areas, with the scarf around her for visibility.

The scarf was also there for Lara to leap in action during times of crisis, as it allowed her mobility at all times by removing it when needed. Another plus point would be this costume’s durability, as it was solid enough to last even after much combat.

2 Classic Lara

The Tomb Raider series needed to have an iconic look for its protagonist to really the set the stage for her to own, and it was by bringing the gaming community this look that Lara was able to appeal to both the female and male demographics.

With a backpack around her shoulders and a simple top and shorts, Lara exemplified what it was to be a young adventurer out to solve puzzles and beat up bad guys. Her double handguns are part and parcel with the costume, not to mention that girlish hairdo that was both cute and put villains in a false sense of security. All the cosplayers out there will attest to how popular classic Lara is.

1 Survivor Lara

Although this is a new addition to Lara’s appearance, we’ll still go for the reboot series version since it sheds away the objectification that came with the original’s presentation. This time around, Lara wore a pair of jeans and a distressed top, both of which made her look absolutely badass after her many trials and tribulations gave her warrior scars.

With her bow cast around her and the killer instinct she embodies, this appearance of Lara is one that everyone should see as an image of bravery. With Alicia Vikander also rocking this costume in the live-action film, Lara’s latest default appearance is easily her very best.
