While speaking on a recent Vanity Fair podcast, Tom Holland stated that his upcoming film, Unchartedis a cross between Indiana Jones and James Bond. This comes after the 24-year-old stated that he’d love to suit up and play agent 007.

Holland, who is best known for playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man in five MCU films, is starring as Nathan Drake in the live-action movie adaptation of the best-selling video game series. The Uncharted game series spans decades and includes 2007's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, 2009's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and 2016's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. In the series, Drake and his team travel the globe for coveted lost treasure.

The film is considered a prequel to the Uncharted game series and will center on a younger version of Nathan Drake. When speaking on the “Little Gold Men” podcast, Holland said, "I think the easiest way to describe the film without belittling it in any way is like if Indiana Jones and James Bond had had a baby, it would be Nathan Drake. That is the way I keep describing the film."

The Uncharted adaptation has been stuck in development for over a decade and has gone through several different directors, release dates, and scripts. Initially, Mark Wahlberg was attached to play Drake, but he was recast after Sony decided they wanted to go in a younger direction. Wahlberg will now co-star as Drake’s mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan. Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom), the film cast includes Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali (Truth or Dare), and Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).

Holland will next be seen in theatres this month in the Apple TV+ drama, Cherry. The latest Russo Brothers’ film is based on Nico Walker’s semi-autobiographical novel, in which he documents his journey in the military and descent into addiction and theft. The Russo Brothers are largely known for directing Marvel films such as Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War. This will be their first non-MCU film since the 2006 comedy, You, Me and Dupree.

Uncharted is scheduled to be released in theatres on February 11, 2022.
