Tom Holland's Spider-Man will be staying in the MCU for at least a while longer, although there was a point in time when it looked like Sony would no longer share joint custody of the wall-crawler with Disney and Marvel Studios. Fortunately, had such an event occurred, Holland had some ideas for future Spider-Man films involving Venom and Kraven the Hunter.

After the landmark licensing deal between Disney and Sony that resulted in the latter co-producing new Spider-Man films with Marvel Studios set in the MCU, the time eventually came for both parties to renegotiate the terms of the agreement to continue the partnership. While there was a point when negotiations fell through and Sony prepared to move forward on a new Spider-Man film without Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige's involvement, a new agreement was eventually reached that would allow both companies to co-produce a new solo film for Holland's wall-crawler and keep him in the MCU for now.

Had the deal fallen through, however, Holland had some ideas for Spider-Man's future that he took to Sony executive Amy Pascal on the day his MCU exit was announced. During an interview with Empire, Holland recounted the conversations he had with Pascal as they pitched ideas over the course of three hours. "How would we do a film without Marvel? Does Peter Parker fall through a portal, and then he’s in the Venom world? Or do we do a Kraven the Hunter film? It was a nice distraction," Holland said, "because as a young kid I was so in love with Marvel, and I was so lucky to be a part of it that when they took the rug from under my feet, I was not ready to say goodbye yet.”

While Sony may not have needed Holland's backup pitches, it appears a few of those ideas will be moving forward in some capacity anyway. Sony is moving forward with a Karven the Hunter film starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the title role, which at this time will be set in the company's Spider-Man Universe, which is separate from the MCU. However, the post-credits scene for Venom: Let There Be Carnage blew open the door for Sony's Spider-Man Universe and the MCU to collide, so Holland's idea to have his version of the web-slinger face off against these two foes could actually become a reality one day.

Fans may have a better sense of what the future holds for Holland's Peter Parker after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film appears to be filled with multiple sinister villains from past Spider-Man films, all but confirming Sony has set the stage for Holland's wall-crawler to easily make the move out of the MCU if and when the time comes.

While it will be a sad day when Holland's time with the MCU comes to an end, it has certainly been an enjoyable ride so far. With the team behind Spider-Man: No Way Home touting the film as an ambitious epic on par with Avengers: Endgame, fans still have a lot to look forward to.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released in theaters on December 17, 2021.
