As if fans did not have enough reason to be excited about the MCU's upcoming Spider-Man 3, Tom Holland has heaped some high praise on the sequel. Holland teased his reaction to the movie by calling it "the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made."

While promoting his new drama Cherry on Variety's Awards Circuit Podcast, Holland was asked about the latest MCU Spider-Man adventure. Though Holland remained tight-lipped about any details regarding the story, he didn't hold back his own excitement about the buzzed-about movie. "I can say that it’s the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made. You sit down, read the script, and see what they’re trying to do, and they’re succeeding," Holland said. "It’s really impressive. I’ve never seen a standalone superhero movie quite like it. And I’m just, you know, again, that lucky little s*** who happens to be Spider-Man in it." Holland went on to say that they still had "a lot more shooting to do" and that he is as excited as anyone to watch the movie.

Spider-Man 3 will find Holland returning to his role as Peter Parker following the shocking post-credit scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home in which his identity was revealed to the world. Zendaya will also be returning in the role of MJ. However, it the unexpected casting news, including Jamie Foxx returning to the role of Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Alfred Molina returning as Doc Ock from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2, that has fans speculating a live-action spider-verse movie is happening.

There has still been no official confirmation to the rampant rumors that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will reprise their past Spider-Man roles. But with Holland's bold statement about the ambition of this movie, it's clear that fans should expect something very big. With confirmation that the movie will link to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and with the casting of characters from previous Spider-Man universes, it seems pretty clear what's being planned for Holland's next outing as the wall-crawler.

It certainly does seem ambitious, but it also sounds like it runs the risk of becoming overstuffed if even some of these rumors are true. Garfield and Maguire are not the only big names that are expected to pop up, as Kristen Dunst and Emma Stone are also rumored to be reprising their roles as Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy, respectively, plus some other potential surprises. Given the intriguing end of Far From Home, a third movie centered just around Peter struggling with this new development might have been all fans needed. But it will be very interesting to see if they can pull off this seemingly massive plan.

Spider-Man 3 is set to be released on December 17, 2021.
