When many thought it couldn't get any more bizarre yet wildly entertaining in the MCU, then came Loki. The third Disney Plus series immediately became a critical success, and now with a planned season 2, star Tom Hiddleston has hinted at what fans can expect next for the God of Mischief.

Before the conclusion of the Infinity Saga with Avengers: Endgame, it was back in 2018 that Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios were developing limited series based on more side characters who were unlikely to have their own titular roles in future films. Series like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki kicked off the start of phase 4, which continues to expand the MCU universe in unique (and cosmic) ways.

While speaking with Variety, Hiddleston, who has played the role of Loki ever since 2011's Thor, has teased what's to come in Loki season 2. "I understand the audience sees good in Loki — they want him to get past his internal and external obstacles. They want him to repair that relationship with his brother and step into the hero that he can be," Hiddleston shared. The off-kilter, time travel adventure sees Loki return in full glory as he finds himself dealing with the ramifications of his actions after being brought to the Time Variance Authority (TVA).

There, he goes on a journey of self-discovery and shifts from villain to endearing anti-hero after meeting new characters like Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino). "He realizes, 'Actually, I can choose my path and choose to do the right thing. Or I choose, at least, not to repeat the same old tricks that I repeated over and over in a cycle of trust and betrayal,'" Hiddleston said. "It's exciting to retain all the characteristics that makes Loki, Loki, and at the same time to play slightly different music within him."

While its second season is still in development, it appears that Loki will continue his redemptive arc as he tries to restore what was unleashed in the season finale. The Loki season finale saw Loki and Sylvie confronting He Who Remains (a variant of Kang the Conqueror played by Jonathan Majors). After Sylvie sends Loki back to TVA headquarters, she ultimately kills He Who Remains, unleashing a multiverse with alternate timelines.

Kang is set to star in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but as for Loki, it will be interesting to see which phase 4 feature film he'll make his first appearance in. Loki also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Richard E. Grant as Classic Loki, and Tara Strong voices Miss Minutes. The series is written by Rick and Morty's Michael Waldron, who has also penned the script for the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Loki is now streaming on Disney Plus while season 2 is in development.
