With Spider-Man: No Way Home resonating as much as it did because of the nostalgia factor, it should not surprise anyone that we're going to get more of Tobey Maguire over the coming years. So, not too long after his surprise appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he's now been cast in Damien Chazelle's next movie titled Babylon.

Maguire also will serve as executive producer alongside Chazelle, who has steadily made a name for himself in Hollywood since the 2010s. Chazelle is best known for his directorial work in Whiplash, La La Land, and First Man. Maguire does not have many acting credits to his name since participating in the original Spider-Man trilogy in the 2000s, but he does have plenty of producer credits since then, which include Rock of Ages, The 5th Wave, and most recently, the Bob Odenkirk-led action movie Nobody.

While Maguire's casting in Babylon has been known, it was the newly screened footage shown at CinemaCon that confirmed he was playing legendary silent film actor Charlie Chaplin. In so doing, Maguire joins a cast that has the likes of Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, who will be playing John Gilbert and Clara Bow respectively, as well as Olivia Wilde, Spike Jonze, Flea, Max Minghella, and Eric Roberts, among others. The Paramount film centers around the golden age of filmmaking in the 1920s.

With the star power of acting powerhouses like Pitt and Robbie, along with the filmmaking genius of Chazelle, it might be one of the most obvious calls of 2022 to predict that this film is going to be a critical hit. Especially now that Hollywood has brought in a whole new wave of biographical dramas over the past half-decade or so. When it gets released, this may very well further resurrect Maguire's name as a movie star in Hollywood.

It is pretty odd how Maguire seemingly fell off the face of the earth after the original Spider-Man cinematic trilogy concluded back in 2007. Even if his role as the original theatrical Spider-Man/Peter Parker is what he's best known for as an actor, he was in multiple well-received movies before being cast as the iconic wall-crawler. Maguire was cast as the lead in movies like Pleasantville, The Cider House Rules, and Wonder Boys in the late-1990s/early-2000s, which made him a big name. So it's pretty odd that he hasn't been in that many movies since Sony scrapped the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy.

That's why it's so nice to see him back and acting in more movies. Maguire was not a godsend when he starred in movies, but he proved he was a capable leading man in multiple quality films. So hopefully this is only the start of his comeback as an actor. Between playing a vital role in Spider-Man: No Way Home and being involved in this upcoming biopic with proven commodities, it appears Maguire has a plan set in motion to re-establish himself as a big name in show business.

Babylon will be released in theaters on December 25th, 2022.
