This weekend started with an alleged leak that Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment and its publisher EA are set to announce a new Titanfall battle royale game this weekend with a release of the free-to-play battle royale on Monday, February 4. More details of the rumored game have now surfaced, which paint the picture of a battle royale game that is part Titanfall and part Overwatch.

According to Rod Breslau, who was one of the first to leak the information about the game online, the title of Respawn's upcoming battle royale game is Apex Legends and it will release for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. He also dispels rumors that the game will be announced today or even during the Super Bowl on Sunday, instead saying that Apex Legends will be both announced and released on Monday, February 4.

Apex Legends is said to feature classes or heroes with unique abilities similar to Overwatch, letting players team up in groups of three in matches with a maximum of 60 players. It will run on the same modified Source engine as the Titanfall games. It's still unclear how closely tied to the Titanfall universe the game will be, but the leaks say that there won't be any Titans for players to jump into, although it's rumored that Titanfall's signature fast-paced and wall-running action will be present.

Being free-to-play, it's said that the game will support itself by taking a similar approach to Overwatch, offering microtransactions for loot boxes that grant "cosmetic items and in-game content."

The information is allegedly coming from sources who have played the game, with rumors that a number of streamers and esports players recently went to Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment in Los Angeles to go hands-on with the game. Breslau says those he talked to were "genuinely excited" and positive about the potential of the game. Unless more information leaks or Respawn decides to announce the game early, it appears that we'll have to wait until Monday to find out the official details about Apex Legends.

Apex Legends, the unconfirmed Titanfall battle royale game from Respawn Entertainment, is rumored to release February 4, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
