During the EA Play event, Respawn Entertainment CEO and co-founder Vince Zempella reveals the first gameplay trailer for Titanfall 2 multiplayer.
While E3 2016 doesn’t officially get under way until tomorrow, EA decided to switch things up this year by introducing a new event called EA Play. In addition to kicking things off a day early with its own press conference, gamers in London and LA are able to go hands on with many of the games like Titanfall 2 as well. Even though the Titanfall 2 single player trailer leaked a few hours prior, Respawn co-founder and CEO, Vince Zampella, took to the stage to show off the first multiplayer footage which introduced a number of new and interesting game mechanics.
While the footage confirmed the return of many core elements featured in the previous game including wall running and fast paced, hyper-kinetic gameplay, one of the biggest additions to Titanfall 2 is the grappling hook. The hook appears to be a game changer, letting players use it to launch themselves by launching it at a Titan, traverse the landscape by scaling large buildings or using it to grab an enemy out of the air and sling shot into them for a kill.
Zempella has also promised six new Titans for players to use a few of which can be seen in the trailer. One of them appears to slam the ground, sending a cone of fire rushing along the ground towards the enemy, while another appears to charge a beam and then firing it in a destructive stream of energy. New execution moves from both Titans and pilots, additional gear like a gravity well grenade, a deep progression system and expanded customization options round out what appears to be a fully expanded multiplayer side.
Interestingly enough, the Titan sword gameplay seen in the campaign trailer wasn’t shown off in the multiplayer footage, though many are expecting it to be a another one of the six new Titan classes or at the very least be a potential loadout weapon option.
For many, the addition of a traditional single player campaign may be enough reason to jump into this world as it was one of the biggest criticisms of the first game and its multiplayer campaign element. In Titanfall 2, players jump into the shoes of a militia rifleman who’s stranded behind enemy lines. Players will team up with a Vanguard-class Titan in what appears to be a thrilling campaign complete with iconic moments that defined the Respawn team when they were hitting their strides working on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and its sequel.
