Titanfall 2 players have been experiencing a number of problems this past year regarding its online infrastructure. Many were concerned some aspects that have been unaddressed, noting that there is a number of systems that are being left compromised. This resulted in Titanfall 2's multiplayer servers being plagued by hackers, causing several issues for players. These range from them being unable to log in, to several components of the game being near unplayable.

The most promiment of problems presented are hackers issuing DDoS Attacks on Titanfall 2's multiplayer servers, with consoles in particular suffering the most from this. These ongoing attacks are attributed to one or two people who have a grudge against Respawn Entertainment and EA. These issues have been impacting not only Titanfall 2, but also Apex Legends as well. Now one team of fans created a mod that allows players to set up their own custom servers.

This Titanfall 2 mod is known as Northstar, created by BobTheBob on GitHub and a team of contributors. This mod allows players to host their own servers through the use of custom scripts and assets, alongside the vanilla version. This mod will help reduce the risk of attacks on Titanfall 2's current servers, where these custom servers do have the same vulnerabilities as the originals, but they are for the most part off-radar.

A notorious account known as SaveTitanfall explains that if these hackers wanted to crash these custom servers, they would need to track down the IP address of the one hosting the server. They further explain that these private multiplayer servers are not a part of Titanfall 2's master server, so it would be difficult for the hackers to track down and crash with that method.

This mod can only be used on PC, with many who have been able to play using this client experiencing a much smoother experience. Fans who have been experiencing these issues with Titanfall 2 for the past few months expressed how excited they were to jump back into the game thanks to this. The team also provided a tutorial on how to set up this mod, as it uses its own client instead of just launching through Origin. If fans were having issues or needed help setting up this mod, a link to the team's Discord server was also provided.

Titanfall 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
