Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is a spin-off in the Borderlands franchise that takes the series' loot-driven shooting to a fantasy setting complete with magic and dragons. The new setting brings a number of other changes to Tiny Tina's Wonderlands as well, including multi-classing, melee weapons, spellcasting, and an overworld map. With the systems and mechanics being introduced, fans of the series have a lot of questions regarding how the game will play. Thankfully, developers have started peeling back the curtain on how some of its features will work, starting with showing some of the classes players will get to choose from.

The first two that have been revealed are the Stabbomancer and the Brr-Zerker. Each of the classes comes with two abilities; the Brr-Zerker bringing an ice-focused edge to what many fantasy fans may expect from a berserker class. This includes one ability that allows them to jump forward and slam the ground with a massive ice axe to create a shockwave of damage, while the second ability sees them whirling around with an axe to damage enemies. The Stabbomancer is a play on the fantasy rogue archetype, and brings its own twists on some classic Borderlands abilities.

The New Spin of the Stabbomancer Class

The Stabbomancer is focused on scoring critical hits to maximize damage, and their first ability sees them summoning a spinning spectral blade to damage enemies all around. However, the Stabbomancer's other ability will be much more familiar to fans of the franchise, and allows the character to cloak themselves in darkness to enter a stealth mode.

According to the class description on Wonderlands' official website, Stabbomancer play will largely revolve around jumping in and out of this stealth mode to get guaranteed critical hits and status effects. The reveal trailer of the two classes shows the Stabbomancer freezing their enemy after delivering a melee attack from behind, hinting at how Stabbomancers may help slow down high-priority targets in a fashion similar to rogues in games like Dungeons and Dragons.

Fans of the series may recognize the cloaking ability from previous Borderlands titles, as nearly every Borderlands game has featured a character with a similar ability. Lilith's Phasewalk in the first game saw her disappear from enemies, meanwhile Zer0 and Zane in their respective games achieved a similar effect by going invisible and activating a hologram decoy.

Each of the abilities has its own quirks, like Lilith exploding in an elemental nova when exiting her Phasewalk, Zer0's next shot dealing bonus damage when hidden, and Zane being able to swap positions with his hologram at any time. The Stabbomancer seems like it will bring another unique twist to the ability, and it should be fun to dance in-and-out of stealth, hitting enemies when they are most vulnerable before dipping away to avoid damage.

These two classes are the first look that fans have gotten at what to expect from Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, and it is a strong start. Both classes seem to offer distinct playstyles, and it should be very interesting to see the different combinations that players can make with both of classes and ones that haven't been revealed yet. Hopefully, Wonderlands will improve on some of the missteps that Borderlands 3 made to become a truly stand-out entry in the franchise.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands releases for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on March 25, 2022.
