The vast majority of co-op games nowadays tend to focus solely on online play, rarely ever supporting local co-op or multiplayer options. To its credit, Gearbox Software has pushed back against this trend, making sure the next-gen versions of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection support 4-player split-screen and offering 2-player split-screen in Borderlands 3. Gearbox's split-screen support will continue in Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, which is set to launch next week.

Gearbox Software recently touched on the different co-op options that will be available to Tiny Tina's Wonderlands players when the game launches on March 25. Not only will Tiny Tina's Wonderlands support four players in online co-op, but the game will also allow for 2-player split-screen co-op as well. This is great news for those that enjoy playing local co-op games, as they and a friend will be able to play through the entirety of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands together.

Assuming Tiny Tina's Wonderlands split-screen co-op functions like Borderlands 3, players will be able to have their own unique profiles and characters. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands has a character creator for the first time in Borderlands series history, with players having a variety of different classes to choose from. It remains to be seen how fans will react to this departure from the norm, but it seems to be a mostly popular decision on Gearbox's part so far.

In the meantime, the jury is still out on how well Tiny Tina's Wonderlands split-screen co-op will run. As some may recall, Borderlands 3 co-op had terrible lag issues that persisted for quite some time after the game's launch. These lag problems made the Borderlands 3 split-screen experience a letdown compared to the rest of the experience, and so hopefully Tiny Tina's Wonderlands can avoid running into similar problems.

One advantage that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands has is that it's launching on more powerful hardware than Borderlands 3. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands will be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X as well as last-gen consoles, so if those split-screen co-op problems rear their ugly head again, maybe they will be minimized or even eliminated on the new consoles. However, we haven't actually seen Tiny Tina's Wonderlands split-screen co-op in action yet, so that's just speculation at this time.

It's also unclear if Tiny Tina's Wonderlands will have a vertical split-screen option. Borderlands 3 infamously launched without one, and so it will be interesting to see if Tiny Tina's Wonderlands does as well.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is launching March 25 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
