Tiny Tina's Wonderlands was recently featured during Sony's PlayStation Showcase event, offering fans their first in-depth look at Gearbox's upcoming looter shooter. As the reveal presented, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is in many ways a continuation of the Borderlands franchise, just with a fantasy spin. Despite the similar identity to Borderlands, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is making some exciting changes to help it stand out. One such example is full character customization.

In Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, players will be making their own character rather than selecting from a pre-made group of Vault Hunters like in Borderlands. While the full scope of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' character customization will need to be seen to be fully understood, on paper there's a lot to be excited about. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands will allow players to customize not just their character's physical appearance, but also their race, as well as their voice and personality.

While Gearbox doesn't get into specifics with regards to what it really means to customize a character's personality, it does seem very excited about what it has made. Personality may not even be the accurate way to describe it, but it's how Gearbox characterized "some other fun stuff" that it wasn't ready to detail just yet. The only other detail about these "fun" options tied to personality that Gearbox offered is that they won't be related to aesthetics.

As for aesthetics, Gearbox sounds like it's going to let Tiny Tina's Wonderlands players have a lot of freedom. Players will be able to create their own orc, which makes sense for a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired game. However, they'll also be able to add things like shark fins to their head, which is distinctly not very Dungeons & Dragons. Gearbox says to expect features that aren't very humanoid, a surprise given how humanoid Borderlands' playable characters have been over the years.

One other detail worth pointing out is how Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' character customization ties into the player's skills and abilities. It doesn't. Players will be able to customize their character's appearance and personality without worrying about how it'll impact gameplay. Each of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' six skill trees can be chosen from separately from character customization.

One big question left unanswered is how players will be able to customize their character with clothes. Loot will, it seems, remain focused on melee weapons and guns. That perhaps means clothes will remain the realm of unlockables and microtransactions. There's clearly still a lot left for Gearbox left to share about Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands releases March 25, 2022, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
