If you are a fan of the open-world gangster-sim, Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, chances are you already know that its sequel, Mafia II, is set for a late-August release. What you may not know, however, is that a recent advertisement in the trade magazine, MCV, announced that a demo for Mafia II is very much incoming and will be arriving on XBox Live and PSN on August 10.
According to Destructoid, 2K announced yesterday that a PC version of the demo will also be available, and they offered a little information about what activities prospective couch-mobsters can expect to engage in when they fire that demo up.
The demo mission is one from the final game, called "BuzzSaw," and will see the player assuming the role of Vito as he is tasked with tracking down and taking-out "The Fat Man.". The Buzzsaw demo is set in 1950's-era "Empire State," which is the game's fictional locale that combines aesthetics and ambiance from San Francisco, New York, Detroit and Chicago. Expect ample hair wax and hot rod cars called "Grease Lightening."
If your thirst for mobbery is still not quenched by this news, maybe this video of the Buzzsaw trailer will tide you over. There is some rough language here - consider yourself warned.
I must admit, I hadn't the slightest interest in Mafia II until I saw this video. Now I'm keeping my eye on it. 2K Czech seems to have nailed the brooding mobster feel quite effectively, if I do say so myself. What do you guys think?
Mafia II is currently slated for a North American release date of August 24, 2010 for XBox 360, PS3 and PC. Other regions will see the game on August 27, 2010.
