Gamers are creatures of habit. They are well aware that in most of the games that they play, they can hit pause and the save button will be staring at them. Occasionally games will make them search for a bit, like in the setting menu. But in Thymesia, there is no such save option available no matter how hard gamers try to find one.

That's not to say that progress can't be saved. Trying to beat the entire game without faltering once would be absurd (though some gamers will surely take it as a challenge). To find a save point in Thymesia, players will need to play the game itself.

Saving Using The Beacon

Thymesia Finding The First Beacon

The primary way to save the game is to find a beacon and interact with it. Those who quickly grasp the Soulslike mechanics in the game will be familiar with this concept as it borrows the campfire system directly. Finding a beacon will allow players to exit and then reboot the game from this location.

There is a significant catch here that is also a catch in games such as this: using the beacon will reset any defeated enemies. Most of the time, it's worth it to save, especially when close to death, but those in the middle of a great clear without taking a beating may want to hold off on saving.

Auto Saving?

There is an auto-save element in the game, but don't get too excited about it. The feature exists more to save progress on achievements and collectibles. Those who perish before saving officially at a beacon, even if an auto-save has occurred, will still suffer a significant setback.

So yes, there is technically an auto-save, but it has more to do with the progress behind the scenes. Don't start passing up beacons just because the auto-save icon popped up on the screen, it's not going to be saving the day anytime soon.

Thymesia is available now for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
