Thymesia contains a bunch of boss fights available to players. Some of these are considered side objectives and aren't necessary to progress the game's main story. These, however, are fantastic fights that all players should undertake to fully experience the game.

One of these fights is the God of The Fools, a side boss which can be undertaken once players have cleared the Sea of Trees and beaten Thymesia's first boss Odur. This fight isn't necessarily difficult, but can test players if they aren't bringing the right loadout to the fight. Here's how to emerge victorious.

The God of The Fools Fight

Thymesia God Of The Fools Ladder

The God of the Fools is a huge hulking monolith that stands in the middle of the arena. The player isn't actually fighting the boss itself — rather, players should think of the boss as more of a hazard than a direct opponent. It will breathe poison onto Corvus and slam down various parts of the arena, cutting off the player's path.

The arena also has many enemies from the Sea of Trees zones, which will attempt to attack the player if they move too close to them. Finally, there are cysts throughout the arena which spread poisonous gas. These will cause a poison bar to build up, and once full, will deal 50 damage per tick to the player. These cysts should be destroyed if possible, as they'll block the player's capability to move safely.

As a bonus fight in Thymesia, this fight doesn't really test the player's skill in fighting another enemy. Instead, it tests their ability to endure through a gauntlet. Players will need to traverse the entire arena, battling enemies, breaking cysts, and dodging the boss' attacks. Once at the top, the player will be able to execute The God of The Fools and end the fight. Slaying the God of The Fools will grant the player some key items which are important for the game's ending, and will also grant a new plague weapon

Talent Recommendations

  • Healing Execution: This talent is almost a must-have in this fight, but is also generally superb throughout Thymesia. It allows the player to heal when executing an enemy. The amount healed scales with the size and difficulty of the enemy. This talent is particularly useful as players will mostly be fighting lower-level enemies, so they can easily cut them down for some quick healing.
  • Short Claw: A leveled Short Claw can also work well here for healing. As Short Claw doesn't do a large amount of damage to an enemy's regular health, the player can use this as an alternative for healing potions when in a pinch.
  • Any Feather Damage/Recharge Talent: Feathers are very nice in this fight due to their range. As Corvus doesn't have any range in his kit without plague weapons, he can use feathers to chip away at the cysts from outside the poison range. This can potentially save the player a lot of health, and is safer than entering poison range and taking out the cyst via melee.
  • Long Dodge: This talent is useful for getting through the cyst poison cloud faster and therefore more safely. It can also be useful for maneuvering around the arena at a faster rate, which may help clear the fight faster.

It's worthwhile noting that Talents can be respec'd at any time, which is a useful tip for beginners struggling with this fight. Feel free to swap around talents and experiment with their playstyles to best suit the player.

Plague Weapon: Bow

The Bow is a great plague weapon for players looking for an alternative weapon to feathers. Like feathers, the bow can be used from a range helping it clear out cysts. It does a good amount of damage as well, so it can help players chip away at enemies from afar.

Potion: Long Lasting Potion

As a lot of this fight is an endurance test, it's definitely most worthwhile to grab Long Lasting Potions, as they'll give the player the most effective healing throughout the fight.

Gameplay Tip: Be Patient

There aren't many tips to give for gameplay when it comes to The God of The Fools. The best advice players can get is to be patient. Traversing through the arena can take some time and impatient players are more likely to make mistakes. Dying is particularly punishing in this fight as its quite lengthy, so endurance is the name of the game.

Thymesia is available now for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
