Despite the ongoing pandemic, Thor: Love and Thunder had a productive couple of months without too many significant interruptions or delays in production. The film, which will serve as the fourth installment in Marvel's Thor series, is almost finished filming in Australia. Once that is done, however, there are still more scenes that the production team has to shoot, and according to a new leak, the next filming location could very well have major implications for the MCU, including possible cameo appearances by major characters from other Marvel films.

Earlier this week, Murphy's Multiverse released a report claiming that the Thor: Love and Thunder production will shift locations to New York City this summer to shoot additional scenes for the film. While no details have been given regarding the significance of the Big Apple to the film's storyline, the city has always been an important place in the MCU, especially for key battles or events.

Thor himself has visited NYC numerous times in previous films, including The Avengers (2012) and Thor: Ragnarok (2017). With that in mind, it's possible that the additional scenes to be shot are just auxiliary to the film's overall plot. However, given the fact that NYC is home to other superheroes like Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and the newly minted Captain America (a.k.a. Sam Wilson), it's hard to fully dismiss the possibility of something big to come, such as a team-up of such superheroes.

Marvel Studios also has a track record of surprising its fans with mind-blowing plot twists, crossovers, and revelations, so there's a chance that NYC could play into one of those possibilities. One theory posits that the additional scenes are intended for a post-credits feature that will set up a future MCU title or event, similar to the ones we've seen in past films. Considering that Phase 4 is shaping up to be all about the multiverse, it's not too farfetched to assume that NYC's inclusion in Thor: Love and Thunder is intended for some huge crossover event.

Of course, the report is still unconfirmed and Marvel has not come out with any official statements on it, so it's important for fans to keep their expectations at bay. We will just have to wait and see how Phase 4 of the MCU unravels to find out exactly what Marvel has planned for Thor and the other superheroes in NYC, and hopefully, there won't be further delays to the studio's release calendar.

Thor: Love and Thunder is expected to debut for theatrical release on May 6, 2022.
