The Nintendo Switch has become known for being very port-friendly, giving a lot of existing games new life on the portable console. These include quite a few of the more obscure classics out there, like the “anti-RPG” Moon, and today it was announced that the minimalist 2D platformer Thomas Was Alone will be joining that list in a few months.

First released as a browser game in 2010, Thomas Was Alone eventually launched in its final form in 2012 for PC before expanding to other platforms, including Nintendo’s previous console, the Wii U. The game has become highly regarded throughout the years for its tight puzzle-platforming gameplay and memorable story. All of this is conveyed with a distinct visual style that depicts characters like Thomas, a curious AI and the game’s protagonist, as simple rectangles in a geometric world.

Switch owners will soon be able to experience all this for themselves early next year. On Twitter, the game’s creator, Mike Bithell, confirmed that Thomas Was Alone will be coming to the Switch sometime in Q1 2021, sharing a photo of the game running on the console in the process. “It’s past time, let’s be honest,” he added.

It’s been a busy week for Bithell. On Tuesday, his studio, Bithell Games, released its latest title, the spy-themed card game The Solitaire Conspiracy. What’s more, Thomas Was Alone isn’t the only Bithell game heading to the Switch in the near future, as it was announced on Wednesday that the studio’s tactical-strategy game John Wick Hex will be coming to the Switch in December.

Thomas Was Alone is available for Mobile, PC, PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One, and will be out in Q1 2021 for the Switch.
