If there's one thing that can be said about gaming, it's that can often be a creative outlet for the player, and a No Man's Sky fan proves this with a build they've put together in the sci-fi release that takes cues from the late Dutch artist M.C. Escher. As an ideal title to play to help de-stress, Hello Games' space-faring release maintains a dedicated following of players who love nothing more than to explore the almost-endless digital cosmos with quintillions of worlds to discover.

What makes it such a special game is the way that No Man's Sky offers base building mechanics. Over the years, many have come forward with some fantastic structures that really demonstrate the imagination of the community. Some of these constructions come straight from the player's mind, while others are faithful replicas of iconic structures lifted from other well-known pop culture franchises. Then there are those that honor great artists from a bygone era, whose work is still a source of inspiration to this day.

In a recent post on Reddit, user bionicheart70 is taking cues from graphical artist M.C. Escher with a series of No Man's Sky builds that are being influenced by the late drawer's work. An image uploaded to the thread shows something the user has currently built, which is a direct reference to Escher's 1961 lithograph "Waterfall," which depicts water running "up" a path before falling off the edge in a display of impossible geometry. The recreation in the game is impressively similar to the classic work of art, which includes the titular waterfall, though it obviously doesn't have non-euclidean structure. This is just one of five builds that bionicheart70 is currently working on that will culminate in what they call their "Escher-inspired system."

Nowadays, it's hard to imagine that No Man's Sky had such a disastrous launch when it was released back in 2016. Overhyped right up until launch day, many had high hopes for what Hello Games had in store, but the finished product was severely lacking in what many felt was promised content. As such, there was immense backlash aimed at the developer, with some feeling that the studio had let down those who had believed the hype.

However, it's a different story these days. No Man's Sky continues to receive free patches and updates, adding even more content and taking it beyond original expectations. It's safe to say that the game is now much beloved by a lot of players, and bionicheart70's Escher build is just one example of how people are using it for more creative endeavors.

No Man's Sky is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
