Resident Evil 7 was released in 2017 and the remake of Resident Evil 2 hit consoles in 2019. Although these games were recent, fans are still anxiously awaiting the next installment in the survival horror series. Luckily for fans, this next game in the Resident Evil franchise is reportedly already in the works. Fans have yet to receive official details on what the game will include, but that doesn't mean people don't have hopes for the game already.

There are a lot of things that we're hoping to see appear in Resident Evil 8. Some appeared in past games that we're hoping make a comeback while others are totally fresh to the franchise. Either way, there are a lot of things we're hoping Capcom will put into Resident Evil 8. To see 10 thing we want to see in Resident Evil 8, keep reading!

10 More Stealth Missions

A lot of the Resident Evil series deals with battling off against zombies and other enemies, face to face. This is fun and it's definitely pretty scary to try to stay safe, fight them off, and reserve some ammo! But, there were some parts of Resident Evil 7 that we're hoping to see make a comeback that are totally different from the standard fighting.

In Resident Evil 7, there were several sections where the player needed to sneak around Jack and Marguerite's home without getting spotted. While fighting directly against enemies is fun, adding in more stealth missions like those we had in Resident Evil 7 would be a fun addition to the series.

9 An Open World Setting

This is one wish that we're sure won't actually appear in the next game, but we're still hopeful! Many games these days feature an open world setting that allows the player to go anywhere and do anything. These open world settings are filled with a ton of side quests, so the player can really explore and fully play the game however they want.

Unfortunately, the Resident Evil franchise typically focuses more heavily on games that have a direct line of quests that follow the game's storyline. The game forces you to go through the game and do quests in a certain order and play in a linear style. For Resident Evil 8, an open world setting would be a huge stretch, but it would also be a fun change.

8 Jill Valentine

Jill Valentine is a character that has been central to the game since the release of the very first Resident Evil game was released back in 1996. Her last appearance in the Resident Evil franchise was in the game Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, a game that was set around the same time as Resident Evil 2. Unfortunately for long-time fans of the series, she was missing from other recent games. She barely appeared in Resident Evil 5 and was completely absent from Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil 7.

After the events of Resident Evil 5, we get that she probably needed a break. Resident Evil 7 really wasn't focused on the BSAA until the very end, so we understand why she was absent from that game. But we really hope that this iconic character makes a return in Resident Evil 8.

7 More Puzzles

A lot of the focus of the Resident Evil franchise has been on action and battling against zombies. Anyone familiar with the Resident Evil games will know that there's another thing that shows up in many games - puzzles.

Puzzles that need to be solved so the player can move on to the next section of the game or punish them for being wrong appear in many games. Resident Evil 7 did a really interesting job of adding in puzzles into the game, most notably with sections like Lucas' birthday room. We hope that in Resident Evil 8, they add more unique puzzles like these to keep our brains working.

6 More Variety

For the most part, all of the enemies in Resident Evil 7 could fall into two different categories. Players had to deal with enemies that could easily be beaten, like the Molded or the insect hives, or tougher boss battles like Jack and Eveline. One thing that we're hoping to see in Resident Evil 8 is more of a variety when it comes to the enemies. The constant barrage of the same two enemies everywhere we turned could get dull fast. Changing it up keeps the game suspenseful and interesting.

Resident Evil 6 had an interesting way of showcasing a variety of minor enemies by having each pair of characters in a different area for most of the game. Enemies like the J'Avo, regular zombies, zombie dogs, Bloodshots, and Rasklapanje were everywhere. The variety of enemies made the game a constant challenge since we never knew what to expect.

5 Mercenaries Mode

In past Resident Evil games, there's been a special mode that players can select for a challenge. Instead of playing through the regular storyline, players are face off against enemies that will spawn for a set period of time. The enemies typically get harder and harder as the game goes on until players run out of time. They're then scored based on how long they survived and how many enemies they took down.

The Mercenaries minigame has appeared in several Resident Evil games in the past, including Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 most recently. Because the main Resident Evil characters didn't appear in Resident Evil 7, we understand leaving it out. But that doesn't mean we don't hope to see it again in Resident Evil 8!

4 Co-Op In General

Playing The Mercenaries minigame with friends online can be a lot of fun. It's a great break from the main storyline of the game and a fun way to unlock new costumes to put onto your favorite characters while playing through this minigame.

But playing The Mercenaries mode with friends isn't the only way that Resident Evil has allowed co-op in the past. In previous games like Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, players have been able to play with a friend through the entire campaign. This wasn't something that appeared in Resident Evil 7, but we're hoping it's brought back in Resident Evil 8. Playing side by side as two characters like Jake and Sherry or Chris and Piers through the game with a friend is a great way to experience Resident Evil.

3 One Villain

One that we hope has been left in the past is the appearance of several minor villains. Resident Evil 6 featured different sets of characters that played through the story on their own timeline. This meant there were several minor villains that the characters had to deal with.

While fighting several different minor bosses like Derek, Carla, and Deborah was fun in this game, we hope it was left behind. One thing that we're hoping to see in Resident Evil 8 is the appearance of a single main villain. Mini-bosses are fun, but not when they play such a huge part in the story like those characters did.

2 More First Person

One really unique thing that Resident Evil 7 did was putting such a heavy focus on being in first person. We know this is because it was released on VR, but it was still a lot of fun. It added a whole new level of immersion and terror to the game. It really felt like we were there in Dulvey, really trying to hide from Jack or solve Lucas' puzzles.

Whether Resident Evil 8 brings back characters like Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, and Jill Valentine is yet to be seen. Still, we hope that Capcom takes a page straight out of Resident Evil 7 by putting some of the game in first person mode.

1 Forward The Story

There are so many games in the Resident Evil franchise, so the storyline can get confusing for casual fans. That, plus the fact that some games are set in the past means that it can be hard to keep track of all the events in the game's history.

One thing we're hoping for is that Resident Evil 8 will push the story forward. We hope this game will be set after the events of Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil 7. Having the characters acknowledge the Dulvey incident and the Lanshiang bioterror incident would be a fun callback to past games. Plus, it would be a way to help players establish where in the timeline the new game is set.
