In the modern world of gaming, fighting games come in all shapes and forms, appealing to a wide variety of niches. Beyond the iconic fighting game franchises like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Super Smash Bros., games like Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl focus on letting fans play as recognizable cartoon characters, while others like Grindstone's Die by the Blade change up the fighting game formula. Them's Fightin' Herds was released in 2020 as a quirky fighting game homage to My Little Pony, and now, developer Mane6 has revealed a major update on the game's future.

Them's Fightin' Herds 2020 release on Steam after spending two years in early access saw acclaim from both fans and critics with the game's launch adding a story mode that blends fighting games with RPG and adventure game elements, as well as adding CPU matches for players to practice against bots. While the game didn't see the same kind of massive success as other indie fighting game darlings like Skullgirls and Rivals of Aether, Them's Fightin' Herds has carved out a niche that now sees the game officially coming to consoles later this year.

A new trailer from developer Mane6 officially re-introduces the fast-paced frantic action of Them's Fightin' Herds and officially confirms the game will be coming to consoles this Fall. The announcement trailer shows off both the game's fighting and story mode gameplay, as well as reveals that the console versions will be coming with cross-play with the PC version as well as rollback netcode, a popular feature for online fighting games. The reveal confirms that Them's Fightin' Herds will be coming to all modern consoles as well as the PS4 and Xbox One.

Them's Fightin' Herds' inclusion of rollback netcode comes as online fighting games have become more prevalent than ever, with a game's netcode often being a priority for competitive players. Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl and the recent port of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax both notably included rollback netcode, which uses a predictive system to determine player inputs creating smoother online gameplay. Other recent titles like Windjammers 2 have even delayed their launch to add rollback netcode, while games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have been heavily criticized for their online play without the feature.

Them's Fightin' Herds comes to consoles as many of the biggest franchises in the fighting game scene have begun to look towards their next installments. Capcom officially announced the long-awaited Street Fighter 6 as the next entry in the long-running fighting game series in February, while many Tekken fans have started to look towards Tekken 8 with Bandai Namco seemingly finished with Tekken 7. Them's Fightin' Herds will take its My Little Pony-inspired action to consoles, where it will look to carve out the same niche it has established on Steam.

Them's Fightin' Herds is available now for PC with PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S set to release in Fall 2022.
