Nintendo kicked off its recent Nintendo Direct Mini presentation with a nice surprise for RPG fans. As it turns out, the critically-acclaimed The World Ends With You is making its way to Nintendo's newest console, and it will be bringing with it additional content and new features.

The Nintendo Switch port of The World Ends With You, dubbed -Final Remix-, will allow players to play the game using its classic touch-screen control system, or with a brand new control scheme that uses the Joy-Cons. Whether or not this new control scheme using motion controls or traditional button inputs has yet to be clarified, however.

Besides new controls, The World Ends With You - Final Remix- will also feature a "sizable new scenario" that is said to get "right to the heart of the story." Unfortunately, further details on this scenario have yet to be revealed, but it's possible it could take place after the events of the main game, or feature new characters for main character Neku to interact with.

Unlike many other games shown during the Nintendo Direct Mini presentation, The World Ends With You -Final Remix- wasn't given a proper release window. Most games shown during the presentation were slated for a spring or summer release, though, so perhaps the game will be available within the next two quarters if development goes smoothly.

In the meantime, if enough fans purchase The World Ends With You -Final Remix-, it could finally convince Square Enix to move forward with a sequel to the beloved RPG. After all, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 director Tetsuya Nomura has said in the past that he would like to make a sequel to The World Ends With You, but nothing on that front has ever materialized.

Maybe Nomura and Square Enix will prioritize a TWEWY sequel if this Switch port does well. In the meantime, fans should stay tuned for a release date and more information on its controls and new scenario.

The World Ends With You -Final Remix- will launch later this year for Nintendo Switch.
