The Witcher Netflix series has proven to be a smash hit for the streaming service, standing as one of its most-viewed TV series of the entire year. With season 2 not coming until 2021, Netflix has started releasing Behind the Scenes podcasts to keep fans engaged in the meantime, and these podcasts have revealed some interesting details about the show's production.

One interesting detail that has come out about The Witcher Netflix series thanks to the podcast is how Yennefer was originally going to look. According to Csilla Blake-Horvath, Yennefer was originally going to have a birthmark on her face. Blake-Horvath went as far as to create concept art of how Yennefer would look with the birthmark, but the idea was ultimately scrapped. "[...] because of the hunchback and because of the dental prosthetics - the birthmark, plus the wig, it was too much on one person," Blake-Horvath explained in the podcast.

While the birthmark on her face would have given Yennefer a much different appearance in The Witcher, it likely wouldn't have had a huge impact on the show. As anyone that has read the books or played any of The Witcher video games already knew going in, Yennefer transforms herself with magic, getting rid of all her physical ailments in the process. It's possible that Yennefer's transformation would have removed the birthmark as well, meaning that it wouldn't have been seen again after the third episode or so anyway.

Some criticism has been given to The Witcher's confusing timelines, but the show has earned a great deal of praise for its special effects and make-up work. In particular, Henry Cavill's Geralt has been praised as being true to the source material, though the actor had to go to great lengths to bring the character to life in the show.

Apparently, the contact lenses that Cavill had to wear while filming his scenes as Geralt in The Witcher proved problematic. Cavill said that he could have gone blind from the contacts if he wore them too long, and so he generally only wore them for three hours or so at any given time.

It will be interesting to see if The Witcher season 2 figures out a way for Cavill to portray Geralt without having to wear contacts. It will also be interesting to see what other impressive special effects and make-up work The Witcher season 2 brings to the table, though fans shouldn't expect Yennefer's scrapped birthmark to suddenly reappear.

The Witcher is available to stream now, exclusively on Netflix.
