Even though Geralt has his hands full with taking care of Ciri and solving the mystery of her powers in the second season of The Witcher, he still ends up doing what the witchers are most commonly doing. That means fighting monsters that endanger him, Ciri, or the other witchers at Kaer Morhen.

However, Geralt isn't the only one who comes across dangerous creatures in the show, so does Yennefer and Ciri. The world of The Witcher is full of monsters, and even more so now because of Ciri's actions, as the second season gradually reveals. Some of the monsters seen in season 2 of The Witcher are then truly scary.

7 Bruxa

The Witcher Vereena

As one of the higher vampires, bruxa is both intelligent and dangerous. It isn't as controlled by its instinct as lower vampires, as the bruxa Vereena proves when she says she doesn't want to hurt Ciri unless Geralt forces her hand. However, that doesn't mean bruxae are peaceful.

Their sonic shriek can easily hurt a person, a witcher included. Vereena proves this when she uses her sonic shriek to throw Geralt back twice during their fight. Despite that, the witcher still manages to defeat her with Nivellen's unexpected help, and Geralt later cuts Vereena's head off.

6 Leshy

The Witcher leshen

Even though the woodland spirit is called leshen in the games and the books, what remains the same is that's an old and highly dangerous creature. It has been around since the Conjunction of the Spheres and unlike with other monsters, new leshens aren't born, so it's considered a relic in the world of The Witcher.

The leshen that appears in the series is mutated and it infects Geralt's fellow witcher and friend Eskel which, unfortunately, leads to Eskel's untimely death. Geralt is forced to kill Eskel in order to save Vesemir, a fact that he isn't happy about. He then encounters an older, more powerful leshen in the woods, the one responsible for Eskel's fateful transformation while Geralt and Ciri are in the woods.

5 Myriapod

The Witcher myriapod

Geralt has the luck or misfortune to come across some truly strange and dangerous monsters in the series. What makes myriapod different from the rest of his opponents is that it's a new creature that Geralt's unfamiliar with. That doesn't stop him from coming up with a way how to defeat it, though.

With the help of Ciri that the myriapod pursues, Geralt corners the creature in order to stop it. It's also his encounter with the myriapod that brings Geralt the idea that the mysterious creature might be somehow linked to Ciri and her powers or her previous life before she came to Kaer Morhen.

4 Zeugl

Witcher zeugl

Unfortunately for all fans of the monsters residing in the world of The Witcher, the zeugl doesn't appear on the screen in large detail. It still helps to create an intense scene as it attacks Yennefer, Cahir, and the two elves who accompany them in the sewers. Yennefer proves her bravery when she tries to save the young elf but unfortunately, she fails.

Yennefer also almost succumbs to the zeugl's attack but manages to survive. All that the viewers see from the zeugl are parts of his body, its tentacles, as it swims in the water but that doesn't make it any less scary.

3 Chernobog

The Witcher Chernobog

Chernobog is another unusual creature that appears in the series because of Ciri's actions and the destruction of the monolith she toppled. It can fly and does considerable damage to the duo when it hurts Roach, Geralt's loyal horse. As a result, Geralt is forced to kill Roach to spare the horse further suffering.

Fortunately for Geralt and Ciri, they lure it into a trap. Ciri serves as bait and when the creature approaches from the air, Geralt jumps at it and kills it. It's a significant moment since it not only proves Ciri's bravery but also shows that despite their differences and arguments, Geralt and Ciri trust each other and can work together as a team even when they're facing monsters.

2 Basilisk

The Witcher basilisk

Unlike other monsters in the game Geralt or Yennefer end up fighting, the basilisks are well familiar to all The Witcher players as they appear in the games more than once.

The basilisks look different in the show but their abilities to attack their prey and swiftly kill it remains the same. Not one but three basilisks appear in the second season's finale, adding even more danger and action to the already action-filled show.

1 The Wild Hunt

witcher-season-2-wild-hunt-1

By far the scariest monsters, even though they barely appeared in the show so far, are the Wild Hunt. The book readers and game players will know that they're later revealed to be coming from another world, from a species that isn't full of villains, despite what most people would like to think.

Even though the Wild Hunt doesn't have a bigger part in the second season, it will play a larger role in Ciri's future and will be one of the most dangerous opponents Ciri and Geralt will face.
