They had to wait two whole years to get it but, when the show's second season finally came out in December 2021, it proved that the wait was well worth it. In multiple aspects, the second season of The Witcher is even better than the first one. From the characterization to the storytelling, the newest season has a lot to offer to the audience.

6 Kaer Morhen

The Witcher Kaer Morhen

Kaer Morhen is highly important both for Geralt and Ciri. It's Geralt's only home, and Ciri also spent some of her happiest days there. So the audience was excited to finally get to see it and the show didn't disappoint in this area. Kaer Morhen is both beautiful and a bit desolate, which is emblematic of the unpleasant changes that the witchers have been dealing with.

Of course, the Witcher fans have already seen. the keep in the animated The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf but that took place in the past. What's more, in a live-action story, Kaer Morhen looks even more impressive.

5 The Bond Between Geralt And Ciri

The bond between Geralt and Ciri is important part of the story, and many fans of the books and games missed this in the first season of the show. Despite how important they are to each other, they only met in the first season's finale. The second season takes the time to flesh out their relationship, and it has an impact on both of them.

It's easy to notice that Geralt smiles more when Ciri's around, and Ciri opens up to people more thanks to Geralt. She also manages to conquer her fears, and starts learning how to be the warrior she can be. Even though they don't always agree with each other, the easy camaraderie between Geralt and Ciri is one of the highlights of the second season.

4 The New Characters

The second season brought multiple new characters onto the scene, which pleased many fans of the books and the games. Among the most expected ones are the Kaer Morhen witcher, especially Vesemir, who functions as a father figure to both Geralt and Ciri.

Another important character is Francesca. She starts out as an antagonist when she threatens Yennefer and Fringilla, but soon reveals that she just wants her people to survive and flourish. Seeing the new characters interact with the already established ones is great for the audience, because it allows the show to further develop their characters.

3 Further Developing Older Characters

In addition to introducing interesting new characters, the second season also takes the time to further develop the heroes and villains that appeared in the first season. For example, Fringilla was one of the least sympathetic characters in the first season, but the second season turns things around and showcases Fringilla's genuine sympathy for the elves who have been robbed of their home.

Another good example is Yennefer, who becomes milder to a certain degree, but she still tries to do what she feels is best most of the time. A different person would have left Jaskier behind, but Yennefer risks her own safety and gives up her planned journey to Cintra when she realizes that Jaskier is in trouble. Even though she has no magic at that point, she goes to save him anyway. Their budding friendship that wasn't really explored in the first season is also another plus of season two.

2 No Confusing Timelines

One of the aspects of the first season that many viewers struggled with was the multiple timelines, as there were three in total. The show could be confusing, especially to people who hadn't read the books and didn't have the slightest clue when was something happening.

It didn't help matters that most of the characters didn't seem to age, including Jaskier, who is supposed to be just human. The second season clears things up. There are no longer three different timelines, and as a result, the story is much more comprehensible and feels more connected.

1 Triss's Hairstyle

It's a small detail but one that pleased many fans of the books and the games nonetheless. In the source material, Triss is described as having chestnut hair, which usually refers to an auburn color. The games made her hair even brighter than it is in the books. Fans weren't happy with the fact that Triss had dark hair in the first season.

But in the second season, actress Anna Shaffer is sporting an auburn wig that is much closer to Triss' hair color in the books. While Shaffer's Triss looked amazing in both cases, the changed hair color is a nice nod toward the books, where Triss's hair is supposed to shine like fire in the candlelight.
