It is hard to believe that The Witcher 3 was released five years ago, especially since the gameplay and graphics still hold up well, even in 2020. For over a decade, fans have shown support and love for the series. Whether its a reveal, release, launch, or other ventures. With the addition to the 2019 drama series, we might be getting close to The Witcher 3 remaster.

Or better yet The Witcher 4, which brings up the biggest question of all time. Who could be the main character in that game, especially now that it has been teased? Well, there are many interesting characters in the universe of The Witcher that could possibly be a playable part of the next adventure.

10 Villentretenmerth (Borch Three Jackdaws)

Starting with a unique take, Villentretenmerth would be a great main playable character if the game wants to expand its roots in a different direction. Villentretenmerth is a golden dragon who can disguise itself in a human form. He is known to travel and move a lot, and it could be a perfect fit if CD Projekt Red wants The Witcher 4 to showcase multiple open worlds. Fans would love the ability to transform into a dragon just to travel from point A to point B.

9 Cahir

Cahir is a knight who joins Geralt in his search for Ciri. And although he did not make an appearance in the games, he is mentioned. The character is relatable as he is part of a family with many siblings, which means he can portray more personal and emotional stories throughout the adventure. There is a vast potential of exploring the history of this character, with new gameplay and open-world mechanics, perhaps even stealth elements. And even if he is not the central playable character, he'd still make an incredible side character. The wonderful art featured here is by Servia D, check them out via the link!

8 Nivellen

Here is the Beauty And The Beast storyline of The Witcher universe. Maybe not exactly that, but Nivellen is a fascinating character that could serve as a great playable character in The Witcher 4. Nivellen meets Geralt after almost 12 years of him being cursed as a beast. That is a suitably long period of time to fit a game into if The Witcher 4 is a prequel. Players can finally enjoy playing as a monster character in The Witcher games, with a deep emotional backstory and an interesting personality. 7 Yarpen Zigrim

Yarpen Zigrin in The Witcher 2

Yarpen Zigrim is an adventurer, dragon slayer, and soldier from The Witcher universe. He is part of a Dwarven race and has already made an appearance in The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings. He could easily be the main character seeing his record of achievements and adventures.

Moreover, he can also diversify the image of a protagonist, as there simply aren't enough fantasy games that would make their main protagonist a dwarf. With much of his early life being a mystery, The Witcher 4 with Yarpen would be an exciting game to play.

6 Milva

Despite being one of the best characters in the series, Maria Barring "Milva" has not been a part of The Witcher games. There are a few mentions of her in the first game, but she certainly deserves some more in the games' spotlight. She is one of the characters that could easily serve as a main character in The Witcher 4. Her story is that of a family tragedy, which can be an interesting tale to tell in itself, but she also has a vast list of adventures that The Witcher 4 can explore. 5 Yennefer

Yennefer of Vengerberg is a mage and a sorceress. At this point, almost every fan would know her well, as she has been a massive part of the series, especially the third game. With her backlog of adventures, she would make for an absolutely fantastic main character in The Witcher 4. From a gameplay perspective, she can add a new flavor to the combat with her magical prowess and impressive fighting moves.

4 Ciri

Ciri is already a playable character in The Witcher 3, but she does deserve her solo game. The reasons are pretty obvious, first being that she is a witcher herself.  She would be a fitting lead personality based on that alone. Even so, that doesn't mean she'd circumvent exciting new gameplay possibilities.

That said, the fact that she is a witcher also gives developers a safe base to work off of, allowing them to keep the core components that have made the series such a success when delving into The Witcher 4. Ciri would be a safe, yet exciting candidate.

3 Triss

Triss Merigold in The Witcher 3

Triss Merigold of Maribor is another mage character that plays a significant role in the games. But perhaps she needs to be a central character that shares the whole adventure in The Witcher 4. Triss has the potential to add a new layer to the combat and gameplay at large in much the same way that Yennefer would, being a skilled magic-user. As far as narrative potential, there's plenty - Triss has a history and background that's well worth exploring as the main plot thread of a new game.

2 Emiel Regis

Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy is a surgeon. But anyone who knows about him is aware that's not all there is to him. He is probably the most compelling character in the books other than Geralt. He is a hugely influential vampire and a very cerebral character. What makes him a great main-character is his extensive history, as he is almost four hundred years old when he first meets Geralt. This past is worthy of being explored in a solo game itself, and if Witcher 4 wants to mix things up, that would certainly be a fantastic way to do it.

1 Dandelion

Dandelion in The Witcher 3

Dandelion, also known as Julian Alfred Pankratz, is an essential character in The Witcher Series. He has an excellent relationship with Geralt and is considered to be one of the best side characters in the game. He's charismatic, amiable, and his wits are sharp enough to shave with. Fans would never find themselves bored with the dialogue, and there's likely not a single soul among them that would object to learning more about their favorite bard.
