It has been more than four years since the release of The Witcher 3 and CD Projekt Red has been hard at work on its next blockbuster adaptation, Cyberpunk 2077. Though 2015 games seem to be a thing of the past, there are multiple reasons why it is the perfect time to either replay The Witcher 3, falling in love with it all over again, or for the uninitiated to play this game for the first time and experience it for themselves.

A general rule of thumb for games in regards to their sales is that the bulk of a given title’s lifetime sales generally happen within the first couple of weeks after release, though there are exceptions such as live-service games, including Destiny and the like. Yet, for The Witcher 3, many would say CD Projekt Red took its marketability to the next level.

The Witcher 3 immediately made CD Projekt Red a consume-friendly company when it offered to release 16 pieces of DLC items for free after the game launched. In addition to those items, it would go on to release two massive expansions in Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone. All of this DLC, combined with the dozens of gigabytes of updates that CD Projekt Red implemented over the years, make for one big enticing complete edition, but now there's even more reason to play.

Netflix’s Take On Geralt

Netflix recently put out the first season of The Witcher, an adaptation of the same novels by Andrzej Sapkowski that CD Projekt Red’s hit franchise is based on. For people who have only played The Witcher 3 and neither of its predecessors, Netflix’s adaptation could provide a great companion series for gamers to enjoy while returning to the hit 2015 game. Even if people did play the first two games, Netflix’s The Witcher could very well serve as a prequel of sorts to the games, or at least to The Witcher 3.

After streaming the first season on Netflix (or even during), returning players have a good opportunity to re-download the game and connect both the show and the game’s stories together, creating a more immersive experience. There is plenty of time for people who have never played The Witcher 3 to jump into the massive RPG and beat it before season 2 of Netflix’s show inevitably comes out.

Geralt On The Switch

A key selling point for the Nintendo Switch is in its portability, and The Witcher 3 is now taking advantage of that, albeit at the cost of some visual fidelity. The complete edition of the 2015 title, with all of its updates and DLC, came out for the Switch in October, and it provides yet another reason for new-comers and returning fans alike to take part in the giant RPG, perhaps this time on a new system.

Though CD Projekt Red builds massive games with great dedication to the game world’s visual appeal, the company could not resist a great opportunity in bringing The Witcher 3 to Switch, which when compared to the graphical capability of the PS4 and Xbox One generation of consoles, just cannot hold up as well. However, Nintendo has always been quick to point out that, for it, a console’s ability to provide joy has always been of a higher priority than its power. Considering this fact, so long as the Switch is able to run The Witcher 3 smoothly, a downgrade in some of the textures is worth the cost just to play or replay the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 Comes Out Next Year

As described above, CD Projekt Red has reputation for putting out quality games, so this reason alone may be enough for some people to return to The Witcher 3. Yet, for those who are looking forward to the developer’s next big title, Cyberpunk 2077, replaying its last big game is another great way to get ready for its upcoming blockbuster.

Though the games are not narratively connected in any way, one of the simplest ways to feel how CD Projekt Red has been refining its development skills is by playing The Witcher 3, then Cyberpunk 2077, and finally comparing the two to see how the developer changed over the years when the latter releases. With the resurgence of people raising The Witcher 3's player count on Steam, a lot of people may be getting ready for the future of the CD Projekt Red, which is promising indeed.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
