Nintendo has been on the hunt for big budget software and third-party support for their hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch, since it's launch. And now it appears that one of the generation's biggest games, The Witcher 3, may soon be made portable if a leak from a French wholesale retailer is to be believed.

The listing originally appeared on wtt.biz with a placeholder date of December 31st, 2019, but has since been pulled, though not before the post made its rounds on the internet. The post has stirred up speculation the CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3 will be making its way onto the platform, which would indeed be an incredible addition to the Switch's growing library.

However, the odds of The Witcher 3 actually releasing onto the Switch are pretty low. While the leak may give some hope to fans of the franchise, Geralt's final game has both a large install size and is graphically demanding, both of which are issues for the Switch, which has relatively low storage space and power when compared to other consoles on the market.

Of course, the low power and storage space of the console hasn't stopped other large games from coming to the system. Both Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and DOOM have made their way to the Switch, though it did involve some graphical sacrifices. There's a good chance that a developer as talented as CD Projekt could get the game working in some form, though it would likely be drastically different than its counterparts.

The only other option would be streaming the game, just like Resident Evil 7 is in Japan. However, this would likely mean that the title wouldn't be available for Western audiences, as the internet speeds required to stream games aren't readily available in the United States just yet, and fans that were able to get their hands on the Japanese version encountered a boatload of problems.

Still, gamers can dream and The Witcher 3 would be a great way to debut game streaming on the Switch in the West. The odds aren't particularly high, but who knows, maybe players will be able to play as their favorite Witcher when they're out and about sometime soon

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
