The world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is filled with sad stories and unhappy endings, some of which Geralt's decisions can improve and others he is far too late to affect. One The Witcher 3 fan is celebrating Iris von Everec, who is among the game's saddest characters, with an achingly gorgeous cosplay shoot.

Iris is encountered in one of the game's optional DLC, meaning that many players may not be familiar with her story. In short, she's a ghost who was abandoned by her bandit husband and trapped haunting a ruined estate. The Witcher 3's Hearts of Stone DLC contains many hidden details about Iris and her life, including a detailed look at her outfit. Many fans have cosplayed her, and Ormeli is now among their number.

In this picture, cosplayer Ormeli is shown seated on a thick, snow-covered tree branch, the background taken up by a snowy forest. There are no leaves on the trees and precious little color in the picture, leaving it dominated by black and white. Ormeli's take on Iris stands out from the crowd not just because of the cosplayer's gorgeous black dress, intricately ornamented veil, and chilling make-up, but because they included the otherworldly black cat and dog that accompany Iris in the game. While Hearts of Stone contains many hidden secrets, the black cat and dog are only loosely connected to Iris' plight despite being bound to her. They do not feel any affection for her, which comes across subtly in this photograph.

Although the in-game depiction of the black cat and dog shows them as being creatures of raw shadow or an unpleasant sludgy mixture that faintly resembles molasses, Ormeli's companions are much fluffier than the originals. This is because they are being portrayed by Ormeli's real-life cat and dog, who appear to have been very cooperative about this photography session. The cat is shown held in Iris' lap, while the dog sits upright at her feet, both of them staring off into the distance. Each animal's eyes are an unnatural shade of white, similar to the uncanny eyes they have in the game. Those eyes will likely appear even more creepy in the Xbox Series X and PS5 upgrade of The Witcher 3.

The photograph was very warmly received, with several posters stating that the black cat and dog make the cosplay memorable, though several also reported having some trouble spotting the animals against Iris' black dress. The overwhelming consensus appears to be that Ormeli did a great job of capturing this tragic character. Fans of The Witcher 3 are still finding easter eggs in the game's open world, so it's possible that there's more Iris lore out there to be found. In the meantime, Iris fans have the opportunity to appreciate Ormeli's hard work.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S planned to launch in 2021.
