While Witcher fans anticipate the next-gen upgrade, some want to learn to level up fast to make the most of the game.

How To Level Up Fast – The Basics

Players can level up in The Witcher 3 doing all sorts of things: playing Gwent, killing enemies, completing quests, and so on. Sticking to the normal route can be taxing, which is why the following tips to level up fast in The Witcher 3 are worth looking into:

  • Use Witcher Swords

The Witcher swords can be found across the continent and come with various upgrades. Witcher swords are easy to identify as they are highlighted in green text. Witcher swords offer bonuses from killing enemies, sometimes even exceeding 18%.

  • Use the Right Trophies on Roach

Killing bosses and monsters in The Witcher 3 will result in rewards like trophies. These trophies can be equipped on Roach for bonuses, including more XP. For instance, completing the White Orchard contract will reward players with such a trophy and can be acquired early in the game.

  • Don’t Ignore Witcher Contracts and Side Quests

The game is designed to scale itself based on how many Witcher contracts and side quests a player completes. For this reason, players should explore each new location thoroughly to find notice boards and complete at least two major side quests or Witcher contracts for every story mission completed.

  • Don’t Bother with Under-levelled Missions

Players that want to level up rapidly should not focus on under-leveled missions. The game will not reward players with XP five times higher than the mission's level, offering only scraps as XP.

Players that want to go the extra mile will be pleased to know there are some advanced tips they can sink their teeth into to level up fast, such as:

Kill Drowners for XP

Killing Drowners for XP is a great way to level up fast. While it can help players level up, it is a tedious process. Before taking on this challenge, equip the crossbow. The crossbow can be acquired after completing the Beast of White Orchard mission. To farm Drowners, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Question Mark northwest of Hangman’s Alley in Velen. No Man’s Land.
  2. Upon reaching the small patch of land facing an abandoned ship, jump into the water.
  3. Kill the Drowners, and turn back to their point of origin.
  4. Kill the two Drowners that spawn.
  5. Keep repeating this process to gain levels quickly.

Farm Near Monster Nests

Farming near monster nests for XP is the same as farming for Drowners.

Find a monster nest anywhere, and kill the monsters. However, do not destroy the nest. Now, meditate for a while until the monster spawn again. Keep repeating this process to farm monsters near nests to level up quickly.

Enable Enemy Upscaling

Players that do not find The Witcher 3 challenging enough should enable enemy upscaling. This option will ensure every enemy is on the same level as the player, which also applies to low-level side quests or areas, meaning more XP.

To enable enemy upscaling, access Options > Gameplay > Enemy Upscaling.

Complete Difficult Missions and Side Quests using the Gourmet Ability

Since The Witcher 3 rewards players for attempting higher difficult missions and side quests, players should get the Gourmet ability as soon as possible.

The Gourmet ability allows Geralt to consume food to gain regeneration for 20 minutes. With this ability, players can take on the most harrowing of challenges and not fear death. Players will be rewarded bonus XP by completing higher-level missions and optional side quests, allowing them to level up faster than ever before.

The Gourmet ability is only available with the Blood and Wine expansion.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
