Released in 2015 to massive critical acclaim, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most beloved open-world RPGs of all time. Developed by Polish studio CD Projekt Red and based upon the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher 3 was praised for its sprawling game world, brilliant quest writing, and intriguing narrative, earning itself a Metacritic score of 93 and selling over 30 million copies since release.

With such a successful game comes a passionate fan base, and the Witcher community is as spirited as they come. From crossover art with other fantasy series to incredible comic art-styled The Witcher pieces, CD Projekt Red’s adored franchise certainly has plenty of creative fans.

Reddit user clintcolesmith has shared a painting depicting their take on the series’ protagonist Geralt of Rivia. A highly stylized, unique rendition, clintcolesmith’s work showcases a slender, older-looking Geralt walking purposefully towards the viewer while placed against a stark red background. The blurred lines and strongly contrasting colors give the art a dream-like ethereal look, wonderfully capturing the gritty tone of the games in an incomparable way.

The post has become a big hit with the Witcher Subreddit, earning over 1.2 thousand upvotes and nearly 60 comments as of writing. Other users are remarking how the painting accurately portrays the “get things done” attitude of the aging but still professional Geralt. Some Reddit users believe that the picture gives off a “White Walker” feeling, referencing the humanoid creatures from the HBO series Game of Thrones.

With three well-received games under his belt, The Witcher protagonist Geralt has become one of the most enjoyed characters in gaming. Fans like him for his no-nonsense attitude, cynical sense of humor, and deft combat abilities. While somewhat different, the Netflix adaption’s version of the lovable monster hunter, played by Henry Cavill, has been well-received by fans as well.

Of course, The Witcher series isn’t the only franchise with a charismatic lead. Metal Gear Solid’s Solid Snake shares a similar sarcastic sense of humor alongside incredible combat prowess like Geralt, and Red Dead Redemption 2 lead Arthur Morgan is often regarded as one of the greatest characters in gaming. Still, there is something about Geralt’s storied history, rigid professionalism, and dreary dialogue delivery that players like clintcolesmith just can’t seem to get enough of. With the second season of Netflix’s The Witcher coming in December, fans of Geralt will get to see more of the character soon.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions in development.
