The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a massive game with a vast world to explore. It's packed with quests and character stories that develop throughout the story. In addition to the campaign, the protagonist, Geralt, picks up a lot of missions and contracts along the way. Thankfully, these aren't the usual run-of-the-mill fetch quests.

Many quests in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have meaningful stories with choices that aren't always black and white. Moreover, several seemingly minor actions can have lasting implications that won't rear their head until much later in the game.

How To Find Contracts In The Witcher 3

Contracts in The Witcher 3 are usually obtained by reading noticeboards in almost every village, town, and city in the game's world. There is often a selection of jobs available for Geralt to take on. Most can be completed at the player's leisure, but some missions are time-sensitive. To take on a monster contract in The Witcher 3, use the following steps:

  • Collect the jobs from the noticeboards in villages.
  • Press the menu button to access Geralt's Quests page.
  • Scroll down to the Contracts section.
  • Select the desired contract to make it the main tracked quest.
  • Ensure that Geralt isn't under-leveled when taking on a new job.
  • All jobs will have a recommended level for Geralt to be before taking on the quest.
  • Complete all the tasks required in the contract to complete it.

Many of the game's optional contracts and jobs are found by talking to NPCs in The Witcher 3. There are lots to choose from, and even as the game starts on The Witcher 3's first map of White Orchid, there are 26 contracts to find.

Should Geralt Haggle?

Accepting a contract in The Witcher 3 will usually require Geralt to go and meet a chieftain, a village elder, or someone in a leadership role. Anyone familiar with the franchise, they'll know that Witchers don't work for free, and for Geralt, completing contracts is the best way to earn money in the game.

Before accepting a contract, Geralt will sometimes have the opportunity to haggle with the contract giver and earn a bigger reward. However, Geralt risks angering the person that wants to hire him, as their annoyance bar can prevent Geralt from getting a better payout. It's generally better practice to haggle with the rich or the military instead of poor villagers struggling to survive.

As mentioned above, Geralt can haggle with contractors and earn more money for jobs. Unfortunately, haggling doesn't always work out, and the counterparty can break off all negotiations. After all, if the contractor in The Witcher 3 hasn't got the money, they'll refuse to pay Geralt anything above the starting offer. Many negotiations can fail at random, but if Geralt keeps the negotiation/annoyance bar around 50-60%, he will have a better chance of winning the haggle. It's safer to keep the rewards at the 300 crowns mark before Geralt reaches level 18.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
