Warning: This article will contain spoilers for AMC's The Walking Dead up to the latest episode.

This past Sunday's episode of The Walking Dead ended on a cliffhanger of sorts that has left fans wondering who Negan picked up on his way back to Sanctuary. While we likely won't know for certain until the next episode of The Walking Dead airs this coming Sunday, April 8, there are a few theories floating around that speculate about the identity of the mysterious passenger.

One theory that we should debunk right off the bat is that Negan picked up Carl. For one reason or another, this seems to be one of the more popular theories, despite the fact that Carl was bitten by a zombie a few episodes ago, shot himself in the head, and was buried in the remains of Alexandria by Rick and Michonne. Unless Carl somehow faked his death, which seems incredibly unlikely, we can safely write him off as Negan's mysterious passenger.

Since it's next to impossible that Carl was the person Negan picked up on his way back to Sanctuary, we are left with two strong possibilities, and a few that are relatively unlikely.

The most likely scenario is that Negan picked up Laura, the Savior with the barcode tattoo who knows about Dwight's double-cross. This could better explain why Negan wanted to keep their return to Sanctuary a secret, as it could potentially tip off Dwight that he is in danger.

Another strong possibility is that Negan somehow came across Sherry, Dwight's ex-wife who escaped from Sanctuary in the previous season. Dwight was sent on a mission to recover Sherry and bring her back to Negan, but instead faked her death to keep her safe. If Negan did pick up Sherry, then he could come to the same conclusion about Dwight's lack of loyalty to the Saviors.

Other theories floating around point to Heath, the long lost Alexandrian who disappeared before Negan was even a part of the show (and who Negan wouldn't recognize anyway), or Gregory, the former leader of Hilltop. Whoever it is, though, fans should have some answers when season 8's penultimate episode "Worth" airs this coming Sunday, April 8.
