The Walking Dead: Survivors is the latest game in The Walking Dead franchise. Compared to its predecessors, it takes a different approach to gamifying the apocalypse. Other games in the franchise tend to focus on action, such as Overkill's The Walking Dead or The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, or they focus on character-driven narrative drama, such as Telltale's The Walking Dead.

Skybound Games' The Walking Dead: Survivors is a base-building game, more about survival logistics. While The Walking Dead: Survivors has combat and narrative choices, the focus is on gathering resources, fortifying defenses, and keeping everyone fed.

A lot of resources are intuitive to find. If a player needs wood, then cut down trees. If a player needs vegetables, then they upgrade the farm. But others are harder to find, such as the upgrade material, clay.

Primary and Secondary Resources

The Walking Dead: Survivor's resources are split into two categories: Primary and Secondary. Primary resources are ones that can be found or produced within a player's base, such as veggies, water, and lumber. Secondary resources can only be found outside of the base, hunting walkers and exploring the world, or found by completing in-game events. These include leather, cloth, and clay.

Hunting For Clay

The most obvious way to gain clay is killing walkers. Players can enter the scavenge menu from their home base and search for walkers based on difficulty level. Clicking on a group of walkers will show their pool of possible rewards, and higher levels mean higher possible payouts. This method drains stamina and may injure fighters, so players should make sure they have extra bread and a functional hospital before hunting.

Clay and other resources can also be earned by raiding other players' bases, but this method should only be used as a last resort. Not only do players still have to spend stamina and risk injuring fighters, but they can also make lasting enemies with other players on the server, and The Walking Dead: Survivors makes it hard to switch regions.

Shopping For Clay

If a player doesn't want to risk their survivors, they can also get clay by trading. There are three possible places to buy clay.

Joining a clan in The Walking Dead: Survivors gives multiple benefits, including an extra store. The first is in the clan store. The store is found in the clan page, underneath the benefits tab, and the currency used there is clan points. Players can earn them by helping fellow clan members.

The second place to buy clay is The Lone Trader. This character appears when a player upgrades their town hall to level 9. He allows players to trade for in-game resources and rubies, but his inventory constantly changes.

The last place to buy clay is the official shop. This is the easiest option, but it requires real money. Players can buy a single unit of clay for 5 rubies.

The Walking Dead: Survivors is now available for Android and iOS.
