Telltale Games reveals the season 3 premiere date for The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier, as well as when players can see the game next.

After months of speculation, Telltale Games has finally offered a definitive, concrete release date for the third season of The Walking Dead. As it turns out, The Walking Dead season 3, releasing under the title The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier, will have its season premiere just before Christmas, on December 20th, across most modern gaming platforms. A physical “season pass” disc for The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier will hit store shelves on February 7th, 2017.

For fans that have been dealing with fake release date listings, it’s nice to finally have an official release date for the first episode of The Walking Dead‘s third season. In fact, fans may have been satisfied with just learning the release date and then waiting patiently for the premiere, but as it turns out, Telltale will air a sneak preview of the game very soon, which should give enthusiasts even more to be excited about.

Fans will get their first solid look at A New Frontier on Thursday, December 1st, during The Game Awards 2016 presentation, emanating live from Los Angeles at 5:30pm Pacific time. The Game Awards have been home to many major Telltale developments in the past – such as the announcement of its Game of Throne series and when The Walking Dead‘s first season won Game of the Year in 2012 – so its fitting that the third season will be fully unveiled at the event next week.

The Walking Dead: Season 3 Could Feature Older Clementine - Clementine with gun

It will be interesting to see if the game’s appearance at The Game Awards will include more than just a look at its story. One of the main criticisms levied at Telltale over the years is its lack of compelling gameplay to match its storytelling strengths, so perhaps it will look to silence critics by offering expanding gameplay options in the third season of The Walking Dead. Since The Walking Dead really helped put Telltale Games on the map, it would make sense for the studio to use it to introduce its fans to new gameplay elements that it can incorporate into other titles.

In any case, The Walking Dead‘s appearance at The Game Awards next Thursday will mark almost six months since the last time gamers saw anything of the game. To date, there’s very little that’s known about the project beyond the fact that Clementine will still be the main character, so hopefully its appearance at The Game Awards offers some answers and gives gamers a clearer vision of what to expect from the upcoming season.

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier will premiere its first episode on December 20th for Android and iOS mobile devices along with PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
