Last year, AMC and Next Level announced The Walking Dead: Our World, a new augmented reality game based on The Walking Dead TV series and inspired by Pokemon GO. The game will be featured at GDC next week, but in the meantime, a new trailer has been released that gives fans a glimpse at actual gameplay.

The new trailer for The Walking Dead: Our World reveals that the game's comparisons to Pokemon GO are well-founded. Players are encouraged to explore their community to find items as well fight zombie hordes in augmented reality. Along the way, they will encounter recognizable characters from the TV series that can join them in battle, including Rick, Daryl, Michonne, Glenn, and Carl.

Besides characters, players will also collect a variety of weapons that they can use against the zombies they encounter out in the real world. These weapons will be categorized based on rarity and type, with players having access to shotguns, assault rifles, submachine guns, sniper rifles, and more.

Players will be able to improve the weapons they collect by leveling them up, though exactly how that's accomplished has yet to be revealed. The various characters players can unlock in the game will also be upgraded by a leveling system, though again, details on how this will work exactly are unavailable at this time.

The Walking Dead: Our World isn't the only new Walking Dead game players have to look forward to in 2018. Those that prefer a more traditional console gaming experience should keep their eyes on The Walking Dead from Overkill Software, which will feature four player co-op action and base-building elements.

Both Overkill's The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: Our World are slated for release later this year, but neither one of them have an actual release date yet. Here's hoping that when The Walking Dead: Our World is shown off at GDC next week that we get more answers about its gameplay and when exactly fans can expect to get their hands on the game.

The Walking Dead: Our World will launch in 2018 for iOS and Android mobile devices.
