‘The Walking Dead: Season 3’ Gets Greenlight, May Not Feature Clementine

By | 2 years ago

Since its debut last year, Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead series has been a critical darling, earning accolades left and right. In fact, one could argue that although the developer is picking up new properties like Game of Thrones and Borderlands, The Walking Dead will always be its most popular.

Even if The Walking Dead does give up some traction to Game of Thrones or The Wolf Among Us, though, we are happy to confirm that this current season, the series’ second, will not be its last. At a Comic-Con 2014 panel for Skybound Entertainment, Telltale’s Co-Founder Kevin Bruner revealed that The Walking Dead will be getting a third season.

Unfortunately, that’s all Bruner was willing to reveal about The Walking Dead: Season 3. He wouldn’t say when fans might expect the third season to release or what characters it might feature.

One would assume that Clementine will continue to factor into The Walking Dead‘s narrative, but we don’t know if the character will even make it to Season 3. There are still two episodes left left in Season 2 that should be hitting later this year.

Another looming question coming out of the panel concerned a potential release date for The Walking Dead: Season 3. Again, common logic would tell us that the next set of episodes will hit at some point in 2015, but that wasn’t entirely clear. And with the aforementioned Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands titles likely taking precedent over a third season of TWD it’s possible we might not see Season 3 until late 2015 at the earliest.

The good news, though, is that The Walking Dead is coming back. Sure, we may not have needed an official confirmation from Telltale, as the title is easily one of the strongest narrative-driven experiences out there. But a little reassurance is always welcome.

First up for Telltale, though, is getting The Walking Dead: Season 2 — Episode 4 and 5 out, and then we can start to talk about a third season.

Are you ready for more The Walking Dead? Do you think Clementine should return for the third season or would you like to see a completely new cast?
