A few years ago, Overkill Software announced The Walking Dead, a video game adaptation of the hit comic book series and TV show, for release in 2016. The game has since been delayed a number of times, with very little concrete information released over the years. Now Overkill has released a new trailer that reveals the game's first playable character, and offers fans a new release window to look forward to.

The new trailer for Overkill's The Walking Dead introduces fans to Aidan. Prior to the outbreak, Aidan lived as a normal businessman in Washington D.C., dealing with every day problems. After the apocalypse occurred, Aidan traded his suit and tie for a hoodie and a backpack with the words "KEEP OUT" written on it in permanent marker. In the trailer, we learn that Aidan's weapon of choice is a baseball bat, not unlike Negan. However, whereas Negan's bat is wrapped in barbed wire, Aidan's is filled with nails.

While this new trailer is clearly not representative of the final game's graphics or gameplay, it still reveals a lot about Overkill's The Walking Dead project. From the trailer, we can glean that the setting is still Washington D.C. as announced a few years ago - assuming, of course, that Aidan doesn't head elsewhere prior to the events of the game.

The trailer also indicates that The Walking Dead will have set characters players will choose from instead of creating their own survivors. It also reveals that there will be melee weapons players can use to kill the undead masses, not just guns. Unfortunately, the trailer doesn't reveal any further details, so fans will have to sit tight and wait to learn more information.

It's possible that other main characters in Overkill's The Walking Dead will also get trailers in the coming weeks, perhaps as a way to lead-up to a full gameplay reveal of the long-anticipated title. Of course, that's just speculation at this time, but considering the game's presence at past E3 events, a gameplay reveal might have to wait until E3 2018 next summer.

Overkill's The Walking Dead is due for release in fall of 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
