The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is being turned into a multiplayer game from Gun Interactive, the developers behind Friday the 13th: The Game. It only makes sense that the developers behind the popular multiplayer horror game would be perfect to bring yet another classic horror game to players, but not many details have been released just yet.

For a franchise as long-running as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, whose first installment was released in 1974 and ninth is releasing on Netflix later this month, it’s a bit surprising that there haven't been more video game adaptations. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will be the first since 1983, when an Atari 2600 game of the same name allowed people to play as Leatherface and chainsaw anyone trespassing on his property. It was one of the first horror video games and caused a lot of controversy, which is maybe why no one ever went back to it, although Leatherface did find his way into Mortal Kombat and Call of Duty.

Regardless, the time has come for a new adaptation, and Gun Interactive will surely utilize its knowledge learned from the challenges of creating Friday the 13th for this title. A newly released screenshot has a neat hint that may reveal that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre may be an asymmetrical multiplayer game just like its last, but it’s a bit different this time and perhaps not just one masked killer against a number of victims. Pay attention to the license plate on the bottom right, and fans will notice something interesting: CSM3V4.

This seems to mean “Chain Saw Massacre 3V4”. Fans believe this means the multiplayer match-up will be a little more even this time around, with three villains hunting four victims. Leatherface doesn’t work alone, after all, and his Sawyer Clan has a whole group of crazies to choose from, such as ChopTop and Grandpa. The Sawyer house is perfect for a video game level, and is so famous that gamers have even recreated it in other games such as The Sims 4.

Actor Kane Hodder, who is perhaps best known for playing the hulking Jason Vorhees in many of the Friday the 13th films (as well as the game), will also be playing Leatherface. He played the stunt double for Leatherface in Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3, so he definitely has credibility in the role.

The game is still deep in development, so players will hopefully soon learn more details. In the meantime fans of the franchise will be able to see the latest installment when it releases on Netflix February 18th. The trailer shows Leatherface tormenting his original victims all these years later.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
