The Sinking City, a Lovecraftian-themed detective game from Frogwares, just recently launched. The game features an open world city called Oakmont that players are free to explore at their leisure as private investigator Charles Reed. And as is typical of open world games, Oakmont is hiding plenty of interesting easter eggs for fans to discover.

One easter egg we found while playing The Sinking City is a nod to The Big Lebowski. The 1998 cult classic film by the Coen brothers often appears on lists of the best films ever made, even spawning its own religion called Dudeism. The film has a number of standout characters, with John Goodman's Walter Sobchak being one of the most-quoted characters from the film.

A famous line from the film comes when Sobchak says to The Dude, "F*** it, Dude. Let's go bowling." As it turns out, a similar phrase can be found in The Sinking City if players visit the Crematorium. The Crematorium is located in the southwest corner of Reed Heights, at the southernmost end of Phillips St, right next to the cemetery. Players will eventually have to visit the Crematorium for story reasons, so players shouldn't be in a rush to get there.

Upon arriving at the Crematorium, The Sinking City players can examine an urn sitting on top of the fire place. The urn says, "Come on, Dude. F**k it, man. Let's go bowling," which is almost the same as the famous line from the film. To make this Sinking City easter egg even more interesting, the urn belongs to Aurelie Ludot, a developer at Frogwares who worked on Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter as game director.

In our Sinking City review, we praised the game's open world, as there are some legitimately cool things hiding in it, like this Big Lebowski easter egg, for instance. However, our review cites a wide range of technical problems that ultimately holds The Sinking City back from reaching its full potential.

It's a shame, too, because The Sinking City was one of our most anticipated horror games coming out of E3 2019. Regardless of its quality, though, this Big Lebowski easter egg shows that the game still has some interesting things hidden in its world for players to find.

The Sinking City is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One with a Switch version also in development.
