The Sims 4: Snowy Escape is the 10th expansion pack in The Sims 4 franchise, and players are undoubtedly excited for its release thanks to the announcement trailer today. The game will be available on November 13 and give players a plethora of new gameplay options in Create a Sim, Build/Buy mode, and live mode.

Snowy Escape will introduce the world of Mt. Komorebi, a name that comes from the Japanese word that describes the sensation of light cascading through the trees. Sims can take advantage of the tranquility of this expansion’s new world either temporarily or live there permanently, as this is the first world that can function as both a permanent residence or vacation destination.

Players who focus on Create-a-Sim mode will not be disappointed with this pack, as it will come with 130 all new CAS items. These new clothes and accessories will keep Sims both stylish and warm in the Mt. Komorebi area. The style of these new items will range from modern clothing to fashion inspired by traditional Japanese garments, so players can look forward to mixing and matching these unique items.

As for Build/Buy mode, players can look forward to new Japanese-influenced architecture components, ranging from furniture to structural items like doors. Snowy Escape will include new items like shoji doors, windows, and screens—items that are constructed out of rice paper. There will be new lighting options in the form of paper lanterns and even new foliage with Japanese maple trees.

As revealed in the artwork, players can look forward to their Sims getting into all sorts of fun with new winter-themed activities like skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. Sims can also hone their physical skills with rock climbing and attempt to reach the peak of Mt. Komorebi. If players prefer their Sims lead a more leisurely life, they can opt to have them explore the peaceful hiking trails and natural hot springs that Mt. Komorebi offers.

Perhaps the most exciting and useful aspect of Snowy Escape is the addition of the “Lifestyles and Sentiments” mechanic. Fans have asked for a system like this to be added to The Sims 4 for a long time now, so it’s exciting to see it happen finally. This mechanic will add more depth to the personalities of Sims and how they interact with each other, going further than the traits in Create-a-Sim ever have.

Lifestyles will reflect Sims’ life experiences, with up to 16 different lifestyle options available in direct response to their habits and actions. Sentiments are experiences shared by Sims and how they can have different reactions to the same event. It doesn’t add lore to The Sims 4, but it does add a new level of characterization to the Sims in-game. More than just reactions, though, these events will be remembered by the Sims involved and change their future interactions with each other.

The Sims 4: Snowy Escape is available for pre-order now, and releases on November 13, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
