An important part of The Sims 4 is going to school, to university, and working toward a promotion in Sims' careers. All of these things have something in common - the need to learn new skills. The ideal scenario is to learn the required skills as fast as possible so that the Sims can progress in their career or studies faster.

However, that's easier said than done. Mastering something new takes time in the world of The Sims 4, and except for the Vampire Lore skill, the Sims tend to learn new skills relatively slowly. Luckily, there are some ways how to make sure the Sims start learning skills faster.

Updated September 4, 2022, by Kath Leroy: The Sims 4 continues to surprise the players with its rich array of possibilities. The game offers so many skills for the Sims to master, regardless of their age group, that it's almost impossible for a single Sim to learn all the skills, let alone achieve the highest level in them. The only way how to make the process of learning new skills easier is to use multiple methods that fasten it and help the Sims rank up in their chosen skills in a shorter period of time. Some methods how to achieve this are then pretty obscure, so much so that especially less experienced players might not realize they exist!

11 Get A Mentor

A Sim mentors another Sim in The Sims 4

Mentors are an excellent way how to help other Sims level up their skills faster. However, before it's possible to do that, the Sim first has to reach the highest level in the skill, level 10. Once they do, they're able to mentor other Sims in the chosen skill, which will boost their learning process. What's more, Sims often get a positive moodlet from being mentored by a more experienced and skillful Sim. In order to use this interaction, it's necessary to buy the perk 'Mentor' from the reward store.

The perk costs 1000 Simoleons and speeds up the learning process by four times! It doesn't work on all the skills but includes a lot of popular ones, such as fitness, logic, handiness, musical instruments, children's creativity, and others. Finally, mentoring other Sims improves the relationship between the mentor and the mentee.

10 Use A Celeb Serum

The Sims 4 Get Famous

If the Sim is a celebrity and has reached level two of fame (also called Rising Star), they have the option to get the celebrity perk Celebuserum. That means each day the Sim will receive a random serum in the mailbox. Some of them invoke a certain mood (flirty, playful, focused, inspired). Even more importantly, celeb serums have the power to boost gaining skills while they last.

So if the Sim becomes very focused, for example, it will be easier for them to level up their logic skill, programming, and other related skills. Inspired mood helps progress in artistic skills, such as painting, photography, writing, and the list goes on. The good news is that there's no cool-down with this, so the Sim is free to drink multiple celeb serums a day and enjoy their benefits.

9 Use Special Interactions

the sims 4 group of vampires

This might seem like a given, but it's easy to overlook. Sims, and especially occult creatures in The Sims 4, can use special interactions that boost their skills. The boost isn't large, but it accumulates over time. For example, vampires can spar with other vampires and ask them for vampiric training. Spellcasters can eat motes, chat with other spellcasters, duel with them, and once again ask for a magic training.

Werewolves have the option to fight different werewolves or talk to them to learn more about packs and the world of Moonwood Mill. For all players who like the occult creatures, this is a fun way how to discover everything the supernatural Sims can do and also help them learn new skills faster, at least those relevant to their specific occult state.

8 Go To School Or Work With The Sims

The Sims 4: High School Years

Thanks to the Get to Work expansion, the players can go to work with their Sims in active careers. These include working as a detective, a doctor, a scientist, or as an actress. Of course, it's still possible to send the Sims alone, but if the player goes with them, they can help them fulfill all the tasks required which increases the chance the Sims will level up their skills while they're at work.

The same works with high school students thanks to the recent high school pack. Once again, accompanying the students to school and controlling them will ensure that they'll work hard on boosting their skills, and not just spend their schooldays chatting to their friends or slacking off in the cafeteria. A less functional alternative is clicking on the option work hard/study hard in case it's not possible to go with the Sim to their school or work. This option can increase their skills but can also lead to a tense moodlet.

7 Make The Sims Happy, Inspired, Or Confident

Sim With Many Positive Moodlets From The Sims 4

In other words, positive emotions help the Sim to learn new things faster. If they're feeling confident, for example, they will progress in sciences faster than usual. Unhappy Sims, on the other hand, won't want to study, and if they do it anyway, they won't do so well.

A good way to keep Sims feeling happy is to make sure their needs are always fulfilled. If they drop dangerously low, the Sims will be annoyed, tired, angry, or all of the above. Another way to make sure Sims stay in the right mood is to use objects with an emotional aura that will give the Sims the moodlet they need to learn faster.

6 Don't Be Afraid To Multitask

Multitasking is the real trend, and it works even in the world of The Sims 4. While keeping the Sims' needs up, use the opportunity to also level up their skills and do two things at once. If the Sim is hungry, for example, it's the ideal opportunity to whip up something tasty in the kitchen and work on their cooking skills.

If they need some entertainment, they can work on their video gaming skills. And by talking to other Sims, and telling them jokes, they not only fulfill their social needs but also improve their comedy skills.

5 Use The Reward Store

By fulfilling the Sims' whims and wishes, the player gets satisfaction points for the Sims. With enough satisfaction points, they can then buy useful traits from the reward store. Some of them have the power to make the Sim learn things faster.

For example, the Night Owl allows the Sim to learn things faster in the evening and at night. That comes in handy, especially if the Sim is a vampire since they're mostly awake at night anyway.

4 Use Lot Traits

Sims 4 choosing lot traits

A simple and efficient way to quickly level up a Sim's skill is to use the lot traits. Multiple traits help the lot's inhabitants learn certain skills faster. Pretty much all of them are included, from fitness to cooking, gaming, writing, or rocket science. So whatever the Sim needs to learn, the player can choose a new lot trait depending on it.

The only problem is if the player is doing The Sims 4 challenge in which they can't change the lot's trait. That's when it's very important to choose the right initial traits. An advantage is that these traits are aimed at both adult Sims and children, who can learn faster as well, thanks to them.

3 Give The Sims The Right Trait

Sims 4 Trait Picker

Other than the lot traits, it also helps to pick the right traits for the Sim. It's important to think about them in advance when creating the Sim in CAS. Several traits are more helpful than others when it comes to learning new skills.

For example, if the Sim is a bookworm, they can learn faster just by reading books, and it doesn't matter what skill they're studying. Or they can be geniuses, which also helps in their effort to learn new skills. Additional character traits can be then bought in the reward store, but it's always a good idea to have a solid collection right from the start.

2 Go To Classes

Sims 4 Realm of Magic Reading for Skills

Just like in real life, if the Sims want to learn anything, it helps to go to classes. The Sims can do so by clicking on their phone and choosing the skill class they want.

Once they do, they pay a certain amount of money (usually 250 Simoleons), disappear for a few hours for the class and once they return, they usually have leveled up in that skill. It helps that there's a rich collection of skills the Sims can learn at classes, from cooking to playing the violin, or pretty much anything the player can think of.

1 Use Cheats

Sims 4 cheats

The easiest but also the most boring option (depending, of course, on the player's preferences) is to use cheats to level up any skill, or even max it out. It's simple, and it's possible to do it for all the skills if players are impatient.

Simply enable the cheats and then use the code stats.set_skill_level Major_NAMEOFTHESKILL 10. This will immediately level up the skill to the maximum level and the Sims will no longer have to learn it.

The Sims 4 is currently available on PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
