The Sims 4 is preparing for the release of its new Paranormal stuff pack, which seems to supply players with a lot of ghostly experiences. Stuff packs are the smallest of The Sims' DLC, but the upcoming pack seems chock full of new Build/ Buy mode items, CAS items, and so much more. One of the new skills to be added to the game is the “Medium” skill, which allows Sims to contact the spirit world—though how well it goes depends on how well the Seance is executed.

Another addition with this pack is a brand new freelancing career titled “Paranormal Investigator.” This definitely isn’t the first Sims game to introduce a spectral-themed career, but this upcoming addition will be unique to The Sims 4. While most Freelancer careers in The Sims 4 allow players to build their Sims’ skills gradually by completing jobs in said Freelancing position, the Paranormal Investigator functions in a brand new way.

The New Medium Skill

As players know from the reveal trailer, the new Paranormal stuff pack will feature a Medium Skill, which can be honed with a Seance Table. Once Sims reach a high enough level in the skill, they aren’t limited to hosting Seances from the table. Instead, they’ll be able to draw chalk Seance Circles anywhere in the world, for easy psychic connections on-the-go.

Unlike a lot of other skills, any Sim that is a Child or older can begin to develop the Medium skill. Spellcaster Sims will also gain this skill a lot faster because they’ve already got a connection to the mystical and magical. The purpose of Seances is technically to aid the spiritual serenity of Sims’ homes, meaning those that are Haunted become less scary. However, those who like to play with fire can also invoke spirits and bring them to the lot—though whether they’re friendly or not is up to chance. Bonehilda can also be summoned via Seance, whether it’s at the table or on-the-go.

The Paranormal Investigator Career

This new career is categorized as Freelancer within the game, but there are some interesting stipulations Sims must follow before becoming involved. Rather than being able to start out as a beginning Medium and work their way up the ladder, Sims must master the Medium skill and become a certified Paranormal Investigator. To become certified, Sims can talk to Guidry the Ghost (who makes his debut in this pack) or purchase a Paranormal Investigator License from the Reward Store.

Because Sims must max out the Medium skill before becoming a Paranormal Investigator, it does bring some questions to mind—mainly, how long will it take to max out the skill? Will it be a max level of 5 instead of the prominent 10? Hopefully this skill can be learned with relative ease, otherwise players may not be too keen about participating in this new career. It’s also an active career, which isn’t surprising.

Sims will be presented with 3 gigs (leveled Easy, Medium, or Hard) and the Sim must leave at 9:30 PM to begin the investigation. Perhaps the Night Owl trait from the Rewards Store would come in handy with this career. Regardless, Sims will be sent to either pre-made Sim homes, like the Goth residence or the Pancake household, but can also be sent to other player-made Sims residences too. Whether it’s a Spector takeover or an exorcism, the Paranormal Investigator will take care of it all. They can also collect neat collectibles like exorcised dolls or Specters-in-a-Jar.

The Sims 4 has been in need of new occult content, and the new Paranormal stuff pack seems like it will fulfill that need. Until then, there are tons of Haunted Houses to peruse on the Gallery and download before the pack’s release.

The Sims 4: Paranormal will release on January 26 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
