The Sims 4 made a lot of advancements for The Sims franchise, but there are still a couple things missing from past iterations of the game that players would like to see return. The Sims 4 has continuously been updated since its release, even adding in some features that players requested, but not all have been prioritized over other features. For example, pools and toddlers came way before the return of certain NPCs (non-playable characters).
NPCs have sometimes shaped a Sims player’s experience from something just fun to something incredible. Certain Sims games have NPCs full of character that add to the immersion, and possible ridiculousness, of the game. The Sims 4 has seen the return of the repairman and firefighter NPCs thanks to patches, but they aren’t the only NPCs who should make a return to the game. Some NPCs truly have an impact on Sims’ lives, while others would be a fun nostalgia throwback for seasoned and newer players to enjoy.
Burglars
Perhaps one of the most requested NPCs to return in The Sims 4 is burglars. They have been in every version of The Sims since the debut game, making the world of The Sims 4 seem idyllic by comparison. These thieves would sneak into Sims’ homes in the night and take some of their most expensive possessions. They could be deterred with an alarm, but sometimes even the police would fail to catch them and they’d get away. Adding burglars to The Sims 4 would definitely mix up the gameplay for a lot of players.
Headmasters
Adding the headmaster back to the game would do more than just add them in as NPCs, because it should accompany the return of private schools to the game. Though they were only featured in The Sims 2, the private school option required Sim families to persuade the Headmaster to let their child(ren) into the school and added extra fun to the game. Snowy Escape's Mt. Komorebi in The Sims 4 already has required uniforms, so it wouldn’t be a stretch to fully implement private school in the game again.
The Social Bunny
Only visible to Sims with severely low social needs, the Social Bunny would appear to speak to the Sim and help them get their social needs up. Adding The Social Bunny back in The Sims 4 would be beneficial for Sims, but also a pleasant nostalgic experience for The Sims players who are familiar with more than The Sims 4.
Mrs. Crumplebottom
Mrs. Crumplebottom actually has quite an interesting backstory. In The Sims, Mrs. Crumplebottom would run around and hit any Sims showing Public Displays of Affection (PDA) on community lots with her purse. She’s playable in The Sims 3 as Agnes Crumplebottom, and it’s revealed that she hasn’t always detested physical affection between Sims in public. On her honeymoon, her husband suddenly drowned, leaving her to return alone to a big home with a half-finished nursery. Over the years, her sadness and bitterness solidified, turning her into “Mrs. Crumplebottom.”
Mrs. Crumplebottom, however, is a distant relative of Agnes and appears in The Sims 2: Nightlife. She does the same thing as Mrs. Crumplebottom in The Sims, except she’s not Agnes. Canonically, according to The Sims’ timeline, Agnes has already passed by the events of The Sims 2, leaving her relative to take over in her place. Adding Mrs. Crumplebottom back into The Sims 4 would not only be nostalgic, but keep players on high alert on community lots if they’re on a date - lest they be hit with her purse.
There’s been no word that these NPCs are slated to make a return in The Sims 4, but they’d still be welcome additions to the latest iteration of The Sims. In the meantime, players have The Sims 21st birthday surprise to look forward to, especially because it’s just around the corner.
