The Sims 4 Growing Together expansion pack was released with the goal of making every life stage in the game feel much more realistic, and it also strives to improve how unique each Sim feels as an individual. Everyone in the game will have their own experiences and this should shape how a Sim is and what they become throughout their lives.

With this in mind, the expansion pack makes a perfect addition to this type of gameplay; there is now an exclusive feature that makes it possible for Sims to change and mold their personality according to the situations that they've put in. They can now gain Self Discovery traits, which is exactly what this guide will discuss; players will learn all the crucial information regarding this mechanic available in The Sims 4.

How To Unlock Self Discovery Traits

Sims live through tons of experiences as they age up and eventually grow old, and just like anyone else, they can undergo changes in both looks and personality. Growing Together allows Sim to discover new things about their own personality as they live out their lives; once this happens the Sim might be able to earn a new trait.

Adult Sims can now have a maximum of six personality traits.

Whenever a Sim start to feel a certain way for a long time, they can have permanent changes to their personality. For example, if a Sim has been in a good mood regularly, the game might suggest that they adopt the Cheerful trait as their own. This will cause a pop-up to appear on the screen asking the player whether or not they'd like their Sim to obtain a completely new trait. They can accept or decline this offer.

How To Swap Traits

Sims can also lose or modify certain aspects of their initial personality. If a Sim starts performing certain actions that they usually wouldn't and that contradict their traits, the game will make a suggestion that perhaps the player would like the Sim to swap one of its personality traits for its opposite trait.

For example, a Lazy Sim that's been enjoying fitness activities might want to ditch the Lazy trait and swap it for the Active trait. Just like adding a trait, this is completely optional and can be declined.

Players can entirely turn off Self Discovery traits by opening the Pause menu, selecting Game Options, entering the Pack Settings tab, scrolling down to the Growing Together section, and unchecking the Self Discovery box.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
