The Importance Of Being Focused In The Sims 4

repair time decrease due to focused

Just like any other emotion in The Sims 4, being Focused has its own perks that can boost certain skills and help a Sim complete certain tasks faster, and there are even a few careers in which a Sim will get a work performance boost for going in while Focused. This is because, according to the emotion's in-game description, "the mind of a Focused Sim is sharp and clear."

Just like being playful will boost the comedy skill, being Focused will improve the rate at which the player increases their logic, handiness, programming, rocket science, gaming, fishing, and research and debate. Naturally, it'll also increase how fast a Sim completes certain tasks related to these skills. For example, a Focused Sim can repair a sink or finish their homework relatively faster.

Sims that go to work while Focused will improve their performance in careers such as scientist, astronaut, doctor, and tech guru. The Focused emotion is related to skills that are necessary for these jobs. Therefore, if the Sim goes to work while Focused it'll provide a significant boost and they might just get a promotion early than expected. While in school, high school, or university, Sims will also improve their grades quicker if they go to class while Focused.

There are various ways to become Focused in The Sims 4. How often this will happen will depend on the Sim's traits as well as on the activities and hobbies they usually do.

Emotion-Boosting Traits

There are three traits that will significantly increase how often a Sim becomes Focused during their everyday life. Sims with the Genius, Geek, and Perfectionist traits will become Focused more regularly than others due to certain moodlets that are characteristic of their trait. Here is why each trait makes a Sim likely to become Focused:

  • Genius trait: Sims with this trait will get the Feeling Focused moodlet every now and then.
  • Geek trait: Sims with this trait will become Focused after they've played video games.
  • Perfectionist trait: Sims with this trait can become Focused after finishing some type of handwork such as using the woodworking table, the easel, or the cross-stitching kit, for example.

Emotion-Boosting Activities

There are certain activities in the game that can influence how a Sim feels. For example, if a Sim takes a thoughtful shower, they'll come out feeling inspired which is the perfect opportunity to do some painting. Here are certain activities that can make a Sim become Focused:

  • Improving a Sim's logic skill: The logic skill is very connected with one's ability to focus which means that many logic skill-related activities will give Sims focus-boosting moodlets. Playing chess, looking at space, stargazing,
  • Improving a Sim's computer skills: Computer skills such as programming and gaming can truly help a Sim feel more Focused. So, entering a video game competition or hacking into the Landgraab System are all activities that can boost this emotion.

  • Researching: Players can use the computer to research all kinds of things and doing so will give their Sims focus-boosting moodlets. To research players will need to interact with a computer, then use the Web > Research option. There's a wide variety of research possibilities, from pick-up lines to gardening, and parenting; it all depends on the Sim's personality and the activities they usually do during their daily lives.
  • Visiting the Spa: Players that own the Spa Day game pack have many ways to help their Sims become Focused. There are tons of incense, massages, bath soaks, and yoga techniques that will help.
  • Joining the Scientist career: Players that own the Get To Work expansion pack can join the Scientist career which has tons of ways to help a Sim become Focused. Breakthroughs will give Sims the Eureka! Focused moodlet; Synthesizing Serums will give Sims the Interesting Results Focused moodlet. Plus, as the player goes up the ranks, they'll get the opportunity to find even more Focused moodlets.

If Sims stack up a considerable amount of positive moodlets they can go from Focused to Very Focused which which boosts skills an extra 20%.

Emotional Auras

Certain items have emotional auras which can be enabled at any point in time. Elements, space prints, mathematical diagrams, microscope prints, and telescope prints, are all items that have focused emotional auras.

A simple way to get endless emotional aura items is to do some painting. When a Sim is in a focused mood, they can paint an Focused emotional painting, and then enable its aura. Sims that choose and complete the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration will receive the Expressionistic reward trait which allows them to paint any kind of emotional painting even if they're not in that particular mood. Players should then place an item with the Focused emotional aura in a room that will benefit their Sims; for example, a study where children do their homework, near a computer, or near appliances that will eventually need to be repaired.

Focused Potion

An easy way to become Focused is to simply buy the Focused Potion reward in the Rewards Store. It only costs 200 Satisfaction Points - it's one of the cheapest rewards in the shop. Drinking the Focused Potion will make a Sim feel Very Focused for three hours. Players should be sure to activate Wants and Wishes in the Settings menu since this is the easiest way to stock up on Satisfaction Points without completing aspiration milestones.
