Fox has renewed its entire trifecta of long-running animated series as The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob's Burgers for at least two more seasons running from 2024 through 2025, thus securing more content for Hulu subscribers.
All three shows have become staples for the network and Hulu, making up some of the best programming available on each, with Bob's Burgers being the relative newcomer in that equation despite entering its twelfth year and debuting its first feature film last year. Unfortunately, The Bob's Burgers Movie failed to match the success of The Simpsons' sole cinematic effort, as it only earned a worldwide total of $34.2 million on a $38 million budget.
Nevertheless, that won’t prevent Bob's Burgers from receiving guaranteed orders for seasons 14 and 15 (per Variety). In Family Guy's case, that cycle will continue to season 23. The Simpsons remains the absolute record-setter, as the announcement means the show will enter its 35th and 36th seasons in the next couple of years to further cement its place as the longest-running TV series of all time.
"With this trio of renewals, we celebrate excellence in animation on Fox, our wonderful, long-time partnership with 20th Television and the brilliant creators and incredible voices behind these forever favorites,” said Michael Thorn, Fox Entertainment’s president of scripted programming, in a statement. “Three-plus decades of ‘The Simpsons,’ more than two decades of ‘Family Guy’ and over a decade of ‘Bob’s Burgers’ proves the enduring power of the animation genre on our network and the infinite fan affinity for these outrageously funny comedy classics." As usual, Family Guy had some of the worst TV moments in 2022. However, that didn’t prevent the Griffins, Simpsons, and Belchers from keeping their current jobs.
This year, Fox's animated families will have some competition due to the Futurama revival becoming one of the most anticipated shows for 2023, especially considering its absence has given fans time to miss it, unlike The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob's Burgers. In any case, the Springfield family’s renewal is the most emblematic, given it was The Simpsons that set the standard for these types of shows that, in one way or another, have all gone to follow in its footsteps since the early 2000s.
Undoubtedly, The Simpsons' place in modern television changed once the streaming industry started growing. With it came the proliferation of more animated shows like Rick and Morty or BoJack Horseman that were willing to push the envelope a bit more. However, with Justin Roiland cut from all things Hulu, it might be time for America's family to take the spotlight once more.
