The Quarry is the latest cinematic title from Supermassive Games, focused around a group of camp counselors trying to survive the night against a monstrous menace. However, completionists and determined players have found one Quarry trophy/achievement to be seemingly unobtainable thanks to a nasty flaw in the game's code.

The Quarry features a story-related character who appears between chapters named Eliza, who is required for the Hard Pass trophy. The description simply requires players to refuse Eliza's help by selecting the "MOVE ON" option at the end of each chapter, but multiple attempts at this method have proven unsuccessful.

Why The Hard Pass Achievement Is Apparently Unobtainable

It is speculated that an error in the game's code requires the player to select the MOVE ON option 11 times in a playthrough when prompted. However, while there are 11 chapters in the game, including the prologue, the maximum number of times Eliza can be met is 10. Therefore, players are unable to obtain this trophy/achievement through normal means.

After multiple community attempts and discussions about patches, one player submitted their own apparently successful method to PSNProfiles, which other players have tried out. Thankfully, the process does appear to have been successful since more players are getting the trophy through this process rather than through random chance.

Collectively, The Quarry community found out that the game logs each time the player picks the event trigger at the end of each chapter. This trigger can therefore be duplicated if a specific exploit is used, and if done right, the trophy/achievement can be unlocked at the end of Chapter 5 or 6.

The Hard Pass Workaround Method

Firstly, in order to trigger the specific prompt at all, players will need to collect at least one tarot card per chapter. These tarot cards are used by Eliza to predict the future; not picking up a card during a chapter removes the option entirely.

Missing a tarot card doesn't mean that the attempt has to be restarted, but it is better to be on the safe side since there's a limited number of chances. Specific tarot cards that can be hard to find are mentioned in the Troubleshooting section below.

At the end of the prologue and each chapter, Eliza will read the definition of the tarot card with some implied meanings. At the end, she will ask the player if they want to SEE MORE or MOVE ON; pick the MOVE ON option. When this happens, The Quarry will automatically save after the player has made the choice, enabling them to exploit the situation.

Immediately after picking MOVE ON, the player needs to cancel out of the game and return to the home screen on consoles or shut down entirely for PC. The save icon can sometimes appear for disc-based versions of The Quarry, but not all versions come with this feature, so there will not always be a visual guide. Once the game has been closed and re-opened, choose the same save file.

If all of these actions have been done correctly, the same scene should play where Eliza talks about choice. This gets counted by the game as a secondary trigger and effectively duplicates the player's refusal for help.

In turn, playing through a chapter will net two event triggers instead of one, so getting the necessary 11 triggers is doable by Chapter 6.

Troubleshooting The Quarry's Gameplay

Due to the elusive nature of this achievement, completionists are likely eager to try this out immediately. However, they would do well to prepare before attempting a trophy run. The Hard Pass trophy still requires a playthrough of The Quarry with all its unskippable cutscenes and character-specific moments.

This method has been confirmed by players to work for disc users and digital versions, but the small pool of determined players are still reporting a few errors. This workaround does appear to be a legitimate way of unlocking the achievement, but it may not be 100% reliable.

Additionally, Chapter 2 has a missable tarot card if Abigail and Nick choose to go through the Shady Glade instead of the Rocky Road. The Quarry's branching narrative prevents exploring both paths, and the only tarot card in Chapter 2 is down the Rocky Road route.

Thankfully, this is the only trophy where players have reported glitches. All The Quarry's other achievements may be difficult but can be obtained through fair means, making for an entertaining completion bonus that encourages players to keep on exploring new story choices.

The Quarry is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
