The Outlast Trials takes players through "therapy" at the Murkoff Facility, where they complete various trials until they become a part of the reborn to leave the facility. These trials occur on one of four maps and consist of murderous enemies, puzzles, and bone-chilling objectives.

Much like in previous Outlast games, players aren't able to fight back, forced to run, hide, or stun their enemies for a chance to survive. Luckily, they can purchase abilities and equipment that make evasion easier and assist friends in multiplayer matches. Prescriptions, for example, allow players to upgrade their characters with special physical and mental moves they can use in The Outlast Trials. So, here's how to get an RX from the nurse.

How to Get Prescriptions

The Outlast Trials Emily

Players are dropped off at the Sleep Room when they arrive at Murkoff Facility after the tutorial. The Sleep Room is where they can access their customizable sleeping space, the main terminal where they join trials, the engineer, and the pharmacy. The pharmacy is home to Emily Barlow, who sells prescriptions once players reach Therapy Level 3.

Whenever players complete trials, they earn XP, which goes toward their Therapy Level. Despite the trials being called therapy, prescriptions aren't used medicinally in The Outlast Trials. Instead, they are a feature that gives players abilities like sliding, health regeneration, or kicking enemies attacking friends in co-op. Unfortunately, however, cash can't be used to buy them.

The Outlast Trials

Prescriptions are traded for tickets earned after completing trials with a grade of D or higher. The further into the programs, the more brutal the trials are and reward players with more than one ticket. There are two tiers of prescriptions. Tier Two becomes available after all the prescriptions in Tier One are obtained.

Unlike the Rigs bought from the engineer, prescriptions don't have cool-down periods and can be used any time once players buy them. They have effects such as boosting strength, speed, stamina, increasing inventory, and more. Many become active automatically, but some require manual inputs such as Slide, Doors Basher, and Instant Use.

Deciding which to get first depends on play style and whether players want to run solo or multiplayer matches. In addition, many of them have support qualities that benefit players and their friends and, paired with rigs, can make efficient teams. But, of course, they will need to purchase all the Tier One prescriptions to access some of the best ones.

The Outlast Trials is available in Early Access on PC.
