In The Outlast Trials, players looking to gain access to the contraband Amps are going to have to prove their worth to the NPC, Dorris. This means that before she will even acknowledge the player, they will have to grind their way to Level 10. From this point, they'll have access to some seriously powerful upgrades that will help them through the increasingly difficult Trials.

However, some Amps are worth buying much more than the others, and with so many upgrades and perks to buy in The Outlast Trials, players may want to be a bit careful about where they're splashing their in-game credits. Additionally, players can only bring three Amps along with them into a Trial, whilst there are currently nine in the game, so they need to be rather picky about which ones are worth bringing along.

9 Hide And Breathe

The Outlast Trials Hide

Hide and Breathe is the second Amp players will be able to unlock, at Level 12, but they should really wait until they get access to something better, or swap it out as soon as they can. This upgrade allows players to start to recover their stamina immediately whilst they're in a hiding spot.

The Hide and Breathe Amp really isn't that great, as players who have time to find a hiding spot and not get caught probably don't need to recover their stamina that quickly anyway.

8 Hide And Heal

The Outlast Trials Ambush

Players can first unlock the Hide and Heal Amp upgrade at Level 18. This Amp allows players to start their health regeneration immediately whilst they're in a hiding spot. Unfortunately, this upgrade doesn't actually provide any extra health or healing, as its name and description might suggest. Instead, it will simply just heal the player's current bar of health fully.

For example, if they only have 1.5/4 bars of their health remaining, the Hide and Heal Amp will heal them back up to 2/4 bars. At higher levels, this probably won't save them from going down in their next hit, and isn't too helpful.

7 Double Doses

The Outlast Trials Attack

The Double Doses Amp is one of the earlier upgrades players will be able to purchase from Dorris, as it becomes available at Level 16. This Amp is relatively simple, as it allows Syringes to be used two times. Syringes can be found within the Trials and used to revive dead teammates.

This makes this Amp pretty useless for solo players, and it also assumes that players are going to be dying a lot. Players are much better choosing different Amps or perks that will increase their survivability, preventing any unnecessary deaths, instead of trying to cure them.

6 Quick Escape

The Outlast Trials Electrocute

Players can unlock the Quick Escape Amp upgrade once they reach Level 24. The Quick Escape Amp gives players a big bonus to their survivability, as it will increase their stamina and speed temporarily after they take damage. This Amp can really help players escape being ganged up on, which would usually result in their death.

The downside to this Amp is that it assumes that the player will be getting hit in the first place. For players looking to reach higher grade ranking in their Trials, this perk won't be too helpful for them. Instead, they should pick Amps that will help prevent them from being hit altogether.

5 Cacophony

The Outlast Trials Fresh Fish Scene

The Cacophony Amp will become available to players once they reach Level 14. This upgrade make bricks and bottles much noisier than they usually are, which makes them a lot better at distracting enemies. Players trying to complete higher difficulties, or those who struggle trying to escape from enemies, may find this Amp particularly useful, and it promotes better stealth gameplay.

If there is an enemy blocking a route the player would like to take, they can simply throw a brick across the room and watch as the enemy walks away to investigate. Not only does this make the Cacophony Amp really useful, it's also just incredibly fun being able to mess with enemies a bit more.

4 Antitoxin

The Outlast Trials Psychosis

Once players hit Level 26, they will have access to the Antitoxin Amp. This Amp allows the player to regain their sanity after some time, and any psychosis effects will last half as long. Psychosis can be incredibly dangerous in The Outlast Trials, especially in the higher levels. Players are at their most vulnerable during psychosis, and being able to reduce the chance of this occurring is a huge benefit to any player.

Psychosis itself is incredibly frustrating for players to deal with, and drastically shortening the length of it is a really nice bonus, too. The only downside to this Amp is that higher level players are probably a bit better at avoiding gas traps in the first place, and may not find this upgrade as useful.

3 Strong Arm

The Outlast Trials Enemy

The Strong Arm Amp will unlock for players once they hit Level 20. This Amp make bricks and bottles much stronger when players throw them at an enemy. This upgrade is enough to knock an enemy grunt out for a few seconds if the player manages to hit their head.

When players find themselves cornered, or finds an enemy blocking the doorway they want to use, this Amp can really come in clutch and buy them a few seconds to get past the enemy unscathed.

2 Noise Reduction

The Outlast Trials Snitch

Players can unlock the Noise Reduction Amp once they reach Level 22, making it quite a big grind. However, the grind is well and truly worth it, especially for players who love to run around their Trials as much as they can. The Noise Reduction Amp reduces the noises players make whilst they're running and opening doors.

This is a huge upgrade to a player's stealth, and it can be the difference between a player being caught and killed, or being able to make their quick getaway.

1 Slippers

The Outlast Trials Sneaking-1

The Slippers Amp is the first upgrade players will be able to purchase from Dorris, as it is unlocked immediately at Level 10. Despite this, the Slippers are without a doubt the best Amp in The Outlast Trials. They allow players to step over broken glass, without actually making any noise.

This can save players from accidentally alerting enemies to their location, and just gives them that little bit of extra stealth as they make their way through their Trials. Because of this, slippers are pretty much a non-negotiable, and players should try to unlock them as soon as they can.

The Outlast Trials is available in early access on PC.
